The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the development of exploration activities through nature walks and effective operation in infant and child education area by exploring the effect of the exploration activities through nature walks on the playfulness and nature-friendly attitude of the infants.
The research problems for this purpose are as follows: 1. What are the effects of the exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's playfulness? 1.1. What are the effects of the exploration activities throng Nature walks on the infant's physical spontaneity? 1.2. What are the effects of the exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's social spontaneity? 1.3. What are the effects of the exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's cognitive spontaneity? 1.4. What are the effects of the exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's expression of pleasure? 1.5. What are the effects of the exploration activities through Nature Walks on the infant's sense of humor? 2. What are the effects of exploration activities throng Nature Walks on the infant's nature-friendly attitude? 2.1. What are the effects of exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's loving animals and plants? 2.2. What are the effects of exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's the sense of respect for life? 2.3. What are the effects of exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's loving natural environment rather than artificial environment? 2.4. What are the effects of exploration activities through nature walks on the infant's the expression of love for natural objects?
In order to verify the above research problems, 24 infants aged between 1 and 2 years in two S and N day care centers located in N city, Gyeonggi-do were selected. The experimental group participated in the exploration activities through nature walks and the control group participated in childcare activities based on the national standard childcare curriculum.
The measurement of the playfulness test of the infant was modified version by Yoon, Sang-in(2011) in consideration of the developmental level of an infant, which Barnett(1991) developed and Yoo, Ea-yeul(1994) modified. The measurement tool for the nature-friendly attitude test was modified version of CATES-PV(The Children's Attitudes Toward the Environment Scale-Preschool Version) developed by Musser and Diamond in 1999, which has partially revised by Choo, Um-yeah(2016) in consideration of the developmental level of an infant, based on the tools that So, Gyeong-hee(2007) supplemented and Huh, Yun-jung(2001) adapted and modified. In data analyzing, using the SPSS Win 16.0 program, t-test was conducted to determine the difference between the two groups.
The results of this study are as follows: First, exploration activity through nature walk has positive effects on infant’s playfulness. In terms of sub-categories, such as physical spontaneity, social spontaneity, cognitive spontaneity, expression of pleasure, and the sense of humor, to compare the experimental group participated in the exploration activity through nature walk and the comparison group participated in the national standard childcare curriculum, there was a statistically significant difference, and the scores of experimental group were higher those of comparative group. Second, exploration activity through nature walk has positive effects on infants’ nature-friendly attitude. Specifically, in the sub-categories of the nature-friendly attitudes, such as interest and the love of animals and plants, the sense of respect for life, preference to natural environment rather than artificial environment, the expression of love for natural objects, there was statistically significant difference. Also the scores of experiment group participated in strolling activity were higher than those of the comparison group participated in the standard childcare activities based on the national standard childcare curriculum. This result proves that the exploring activity through nature walk has a positive effect on the playfulness and nature-friendly attitude of the infants.
