The prolongation of human life expectancy due to the development of modern medicine and the development of scientific civilization is no longer a new phenomenon all over the world. The diseases of the old adults related to this are also inevitable reality. The increase in the number of the old adults with dementia is emerging as a serious social problem. There are many studies on the effectiveness of psychotherapy through various art therapies besides medical treatment using medication as a treatment for relieving symptoms of dementia. Recently, Integrative Arts Therapy, which maximizes the merits of single art therapy and compensates for weaknesses, has been acknowledged through various subjects. However, research on the old adults with dementia is still lacking. Therefore, the researcher(Appendix 10, p. 179) recognized the need for an Integrative Arts Therapy program for the old adults with dementia and developed an Integrative Arts Therapy program for the old adults with dementia to improve emotional stability and social behavior. To accomplish this goal, the researcher first developed an Integrative Arts Therapy program for the emotional stability and social behavior enhancement of the old adults with dementia through research I based on the Integrative Arts Therapy Manual of Hong, Yoo-Jin(2017). The developed program was applied 12 old adults with dementia in B city J comprehensive social welfare center and qualitative analysis of the emotional and social behavior changes of the subjects was conducted. Based on the results of the preliminary study, we developed an Integrative Arts Therapy Program for improving the emotional stability and social behavior of the old adults with dementia. In research II, we examined the effects of the Integrative Arts Therapy program developed for the emotional stability and social behavior of the old adults with dementia. The research was carried out on 15 old adults with dementia using S welfare center in B city. 7 people were divided into the program group and 8 people who did not participate in the program. Participants in the program participated in 30 sessions of Integrative Arts Therapy, 90 minutes twice a week, from January 2 to April 12, 2017. In order to analyze the change of the subjects in detail, qualitative research was conducted through participatory observation. The recorded and recorded data of the entire 30 session Integrative Arts Therapy programs and the observation journal prepared by the therapist each session were used as research tools. In addition, pre-and post-test of cognitive, emotional and social behaviors were performed on the two groups in order to compare them with those who did not participate in the program. The research tools included measuring instruments for the Mini-Mental State Examination of Kwon, Yong-Cheol and Park Jong-Han(1989) and the Emotional measurement tool of Snyder, Ryden, Shaver, Wang, Savik and Gross(1997) and the Social Behavior measurement Tool of Kim, Bu-young(2001). The pre-post test results of the two groups were analyzed by t-test using SPSS v25. As a result of the research, the old adults with dementia of the group participating in the Integrative Arts Therapy program maintained emotional stability by decreasing depression, maintaining stability, and increasing interest and joy as the sessions progressed. The nonverbal behaviors observed in the subjects showed that smile and laughter increased and dance in expressionless or sad expression. And subjects who were unresponsive to the surrounding environment were observed to behave in a manner that showed interest in the surrounding situation and to maintain a comfortable body posture. In verbal behaviors, the voice of the subjects was stronger and bigger, gradually expressing pleasure or satisfaction, singing and using humor. Also, it was observed that the old adults with dementia of the group participating in the Integrative Arts Therapy program improved communication and active interaction during indifference, unresponsiveness, and passive behavior during the session. In relation to the therapist/assistant therapist, it was gradually observed that the subjects greeted or greeted, followed the explanation well, and was comfortable talking about their discomfort. In relation to peers, the subjects were also observed to greet their peers in a friendly manner, to observe, imitate, modify their peers' behaviors, to praise each other, and to increase physical contact. And there were significant differences in cognitive, emotional and social behavior of participating groups and non-participating groups. The pre-test for the cognitive of the participant group was not significant but increased 0.71 and the emotional level was .001 and the social behavior was significant at the significance level .05. On the other hand, the non-participation group decreased in significance level .05 in both the same period, emotion, and social behavior. These results suggest that the Integrative Arts Therapy program developed in this research not only demonstrates the effectiveness of the old adults with dementia in promoting emotional stability and social behavior, but also supports the need for Integrative Arts Therapy for the old adults with dementia. In addition, in the context of the lack of Integrative Arts Therapy programs for the old adults with dementia, this research has significance in informing the importance of dementia management and contributing to the activation of Integrative Arts Therapy. We hope that this research will be a useful example and reference for Integrative Arts Therapy for the old adults with dementia.
