The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that affect the quality of life of the people with disabled and to provide basic data for clinical practice and policy making for the improvement of the quality of life of the disabled. The research questions are as follows: first, what are the sociological factors, disability related factors, social and economic factors, psychological and emotional factors differences in the quality of life of the people with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities? Second, how does the sociological factors, disability related factors, social and economic factors, psychological and emotional factors affect the quality of life of the people with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities? Third, what are the relative influences of the factors that affect the quality of life of the people with physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities? To this end, this study uses the data from the 2016 wave of the Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled(PSED), conducted by the Korea Employment Agency for Disabled Persons. Research subjects are sub-sampled from the original sample of 4,577 which include all kinds of disabled people and the final sample include 2,250 people with physical disabilities and 398 people with intellectual disabilities. The following analyses are conducted using SPSS 22.0: descriptive analysis including frequency and cross-tab, reliability analysis, t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Key findings of the study can be summarized as follows. Significant factors on the quality of life are somewhat different between two disabled groups. Regarding demographic backgrounds, gender, age, educational background, employment and marital status are found to be significant factors on the quality of life for the people with physical disabilities. However, gender is not significant for the people with intellectual disabilities while other factors are constant. Regarding disability related factors, the following factors are significant for the people with physical disabilities: the severeness of disability, the cause of disability, existence of chronic disease and health condition. For the people with intellectual disabilities, the severeness of disability, existence of chronic disease, health condition, and daily life help provider are significant on the quality of life. No significant difference is found among social and economic factors. Discrimination experience and socio-economic status are significant on the quality of life for both groups. Effects of psychological and emotional factors are also constant for two groups. Daily life stress and depression are significant on the quality of life of the people with physical and intellectual disabilities. According to the results of regression analysis on the quality of life, the followings are significant for the people with physical disabilities: age, educational background, employment, marital status, chronic disease, health condition, vocational ability, discrimination experience, socio-economic status, difficulty of economic life, depression, disability acceptance, and employment stability. For the intellectually disabled, age, employment, health condition, vocational ability, discrimination experience, daily life stress, depression, self-esteem, and disability acceptance are found as significant factors. Considering the findings of this study, theoretical, practical and policy implications can be summarized as followings. First, community based direct service for strengthening capacity of people with intellectual disabilities should be expanded, and programs, which resolves the stress of everyday life and improve self-esteem, needs to be developed. Second, to solve the socioeconomic status and difficulties of economic life of people with physical disabilities relaxing the two selective assignment criteria of degree of disability and income level which are standards for direct income security. And family level income security policy alternative are necessary. Third, depending on the type of disorder, aspects of health and disease state, hospitalization and outpatient treatment, health care and so on differ, so basically it is necessary to make customized approach tailored to the characteristics of the disorder. Fourth, in order to improve the vocational abilities of persons with disabilities, the choice of occupation that meets the opportunities and aptitudes of higher education solves the fundamental problems accompanying such as education and training necessary for work and skill acquisition. We will need to find ways to expand employment. Fifth, an approach to the psychological and emotional aspects of the disabled is needed. Changes in the social environment, such as changes in social perceptions of people with disabilities, elimination of physical barriers, should be carried out in parallel.
