Metal nanoparticles have attracted remarkable attention due to their diverse applications in various fields including catalysis, environmental remediation, medicine, and molecular sensing. Although there are many protocols for the synthesis of nanoparticles, the biosynthetic approach has become more favourable these days. The development of biosynthetic methods using plant extract has become more facile, cheap, ecofriendly, and less hazardous by-products. Phytochemicals present in plants play a vital role in the synthesis of different shaped nanoparticles. Metal nanoparticles are attractive nanostructured materials utilized as heterogeneous catalysts for diverse organic transformations, including cycloadditions, oxidative aminations, coupling reactions, sp3 C-H functionalization, chemoselective oxidations and reductions, domino and tandem reactions, asymmetric hydrogenations, and many more. Therefore, this thesis aims to develop green approaches for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles for efficient and reusable catalyst in organic synthesis. Firstly, a facile and green approach for the synthesis of Fe–Pd bimetallic nanoparticles using Ulmus davidiana var. japonica bark extract has been described. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as catalysts for the synthesis of naphtho[1,2-b]furan-3-carboxamides. Secondly, synthesis of AuFeAg hybrid nanoparticles using Astragalus membranaceus root extract has been done. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as catalysts for the synthesis of α,β- and β,β-dichloroenones. Furthermore, biosynthesis of core-shell CuO-Pd bimetallic nanoparticles using Cyperus rotundus rhizome extract has been developed. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as recyclable and reusable catalyst for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones, spirooxindoles, and chromenylpyrimidin-2,4-diones without significant loss of catalytic activity. Finally, preparation of Fe3O4-MnO2 nanocomposites using Perilla frutescens leaf extract has been described. The biosynthesized nanocomposites were used as an effecient catalyst for the decolorization of RhB, reduction of 4-NA and sp3 C-H functionalization of 2-methylpyridines to isatins. A number of metal novel nanoparticles such as Fe-Pd NPs, AuFeAg NPs, CuO-Pd NPs, Fe3O4-MnO2 nanocomposites can be used as catalyst in organic synthesis. Therefore, such heterogeneous and magnetically retrievable nanocatalysts are expected to have practical industrial applications, where recycling is essential for reducing the waste and cost.
