본 연구에서는 다문화가족 여성의 의사소통 유형을 규명하여 결혼만족도와의 관계를 분석하고 두 변수 간에 자아존중감이 매개역할을 하는 지를 검증하였다. 이러한 연구는 다문화가족 여성들의 결혼만족도를 높일 수 있는 서비스 및 프로그램 개발에 필요한 정보를 제공하고 다문화가족 복지를 향상시킬 수 있는 정책 방안을 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 자료는 2017년 6월부터 9월까지 대구와 경북에 소재하는 다문화가족 여성 220명을 대상으로 설문지를 이용하여 수집하였다. 설문지는 다문화가족 여성과 배우자의 연령, 학력, 직업, 출신 등 사회 인구학적 요인과 의사소통, 자아존중감, 결혼만족도 등을 측정할 수 있는 문항들로 구성되어 있다. 분석방법은 의사소통 유형을 규명하기 위해 요인분석을 적용하였고 요인분석에서 나타난 의사소통 유형과 결혼만족도 간의 관계 그리고 자아존중감의 매개 여부는 위계적 회귀분석을 적용하여 파악하였다. 그리고 매개효과는 Sobel test를 적용하여 검증하였다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 요인분석을 적용하여 의사소통 유형을 분석한 결과, 7개의 요인이 있는 것으로 나타났고 각 요인은 비판형, 분산형, 개방형, 타인지향형, 경직형, 자기중심형, 객관형 등의 특성을 지닌 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 의사소통 유형들의 신뢰도를 반영하는 Cronbach α 계수는 0.55~0.88까지의 범위를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 의사소통 유형과 자아존중감 간의 관계를 분석한 결과, 비판형, 분산형, 개방형, 경직형, 객관형은 유의한 것으로 나타났으나 타인지향형과 자기중심형은 유의하지 않는 것으로 파악되었다. 그리고 자아존중감과 결혼만족도 간의 관계를 분석한 결과 자아존중감과 결혼만족도는 유의한 정적 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 의사소통 유형과 결혼만족도 간의 관계에서 자아존중감을 매개변수로 투입한 결과 자아존중감은 유의한 것으로 나타났으나 타인지향형을 제외한 나머지 유형들 즉 비판형, 분산형, 개방형, 경직형, 자기중심형, 객관형은 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 의사소통 유형과 결혼만족도 간의 관계에서 자아존중감이 매개역할을 한다는 것을 말해 준다. 본 연구결과는 다문화가족 여성의 결혼만족도를 높이기 위해서 무엇보다 가족 간 의사소통 유형에 대한 이해가 우선되어야 한다는 점과 의사소통 유형과 결혼만족도 간의 관계에 자아존중감이란 변수가 매개역할을 한다는 점을 분명히 하고 있다. 따라서 이들 여성의 결혼만족도를 높이고자 하는 서비스나 프로그램을 구성할 때 의사소통 유형별 속성에 대한 부분과 자아존중감이 미치는 영향을 고려 할 때 서비스 효과를 높일 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to identify communication patterns and to investigate the relationship with marital satisfaction of multicultural women. This study focused on whether self-esteem plays a mediating role between the relationship of communication patterns and marital satisfaction. Findings of this study provide information and knowledge base for the development of services and programs that could enhance the marital satisfaction of multicultural women and suggest policies to improve the welfare of multicultural family. This data were collected using questionnaire from multicultural women living in Daegu and Gyungbuk areas between June to September 2017. The questionnaire consisted of items which reflect communication patterns, self-esteem, marital satisfaction, and social demography characteristics. For the analysis, total 220 sample data were applied. The common factor and hierarchial multiple regression were used for the purpose of this study. Multicollinearity between the independent variables were verified by variance inflation factor. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS/PC program. The data analysis applied in this study is as follows. Factor analysis was applied to identify the patterns of communication. Then, several regression analyses were conducted and Sobel test was applied to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem on marital satisfaction. In the regression analysis, final dependent variable was marital satisfaction, and self-esteem was applied to verify the mediating effect. This study proceed several steps to examine either partial or complete mediation pertinent for the analyses in which several regression analyses were conducted and significance of the coefficients was examined at each step. First, confirm that there is a significant relationship between patterns of communication and self-esteem. Second, ensure that self-esteem has a significant relationship with the marital satisfaction. Third, confirm that the effects of communication patterns on marital satisfaction increase or decrease when controlling the effect of the self-esteem. As a result of factor analysis based on the communication items, it was categorized into 7 factors; critical, distributed, open, other-oriented, rigid, self-centered, and objective pattern. Those communication patterns perceived by multicultural women had cause-and-effect relationship with self-esteem as well as marital satisfaction. Regression analysis showed that the patterns of critical, distributed, open, rigid, and objective were significantly related with self-esteem. But among the patterns, other-oriented and self-centered pattern were not significant. The relationship between self-esteem and marital satisfaction was analyzed and it was found that self-esteem was positively related with marital satisfaction at the significant level of p<0.01. This suggests that marital satisfaction of multicultural women tends to be improved as self-esteem increases. To establish that self-esteem partially or completely mediates communication patterns to marital satisfaction relationship, the effect of communication patterns on marital satisfaction controlling for self-esteem should be zero. Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to test whether the effect of communication patterns on marital satisfaction varies when controlling the effects of self-esteem. Analysis was performed in two steps. At first, only the pattern of communication, which was a predictor variable, was included as independent variable. Then, self-esteem as a mediator and communication patterns were analyzed. Based on the results, it is verified whether the β value of the communication patterns in the two models changes or not. The results showed that all of the patterns except other-oriented were found to be significant. This first part of the results suggests that the significant relationship between communication and marital satisfaction was confirmed. The coefficients of open and objective pattern were positive indicating that the higher level of these factors, the more satisfied with their marriage. However, critical, distributed, rigid, and self-centered had negative relationship with marital satisfaction, suggesting that the more experienced with these factors, the less satisfied they. Once these relationships were identified, further analysis was performed to determine whether self-esteem acts as a mediator in this relationship. The important point of the results was that compare with only communication patterns were included in the analysis, β value decreased significantly when both of the communication patterns and self-esteem were included. The analysis results showed that all of the β coefficients of communication patterns decreased significantly. Sobel's Z-values were calculated to test the significance of the mediating effect on marital satisfaction. All of the mediating effects on marital satisfaction turned out to be statistically significant. This findings of this study clearly indicate that the effects of communication patterns on marital satisfaction vary when controlling the effect of self-esteem. These results show that in identifying the relationship between communication patterns and marital satisfaction, self-esteem plays important role of mediator.
