(Grains and fruits / ...

패스트푸드 섭취군은 패스트푸드를 제외한 식단에서‘Meat and alcohol’패턴과‘Other grain and fruits’ 패턴이 통계적으로 유의하게 많았다.

Background The consumption of fast food is increasing, and health related problems are also emerging. Obesity is growing rapidly and is recognized as a social problem. Although fast food intake’s relationship with obesity has been widely researched, the results have often been contradicting.
Background The consumption of fast food is increasing, and health related problems are also emerging. Obesity is growing rapidly and is recognized as a social problem. Although fast food intake’s relationship with obesity has been widely researched, the results have often been contradicting. Objective Fast food and obesity-related studies have rarely been studied in Asians, and no studies have investigated the relationship between obesity and dietary patterns for the remainder of food intake. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and obesity in Korean children and adults, regardless of fast food consumption. Methods Based on the National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted from 2010 to 2014, cluster analysis was performed on 5,732 children aged 6-18 years and 19,017 adults aged 19-65 years old. Dietary patterns, excluding for fast food, were grouped into three food patterns. Children: Grains and fruits / White rice / Meat, oil, and soda. Adults: Other grains and fruit / White rice and kimchi / Meat and alcohol. Results In children, overweight/obese children accounted for 18.8%. Among food patterns, 19.7% of the white rice pattern had higher overweight /obesity rates than other food patterns. The consumers of fast food included fewer legumes, nuts, vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, milk in their diet, and had higher intake of oil and soda. The meat, oil, and soda food patterns were more frequent in the fast food consumers. Fast food intake was not significantly associated with the prevalence of overweight /obesity. In the white rice pattern, there was a significant correlation with prevalence of overweight/obesity. In adults, 48.5% were overweight/obese. In the meat and alcohol food patterns, 61.6% had higher overweight/obesity rate than other food patterns. The consumption of white rice, grain, legumes, nuts, vegetables, fruits, fishes, and kimchi was low in the fast food consumers and the consumption of meat, oil, soda, alcohol, milk was high. The meat and alcohol patterns and the other grain and fruits patterns were statistically significantly higher in the fast food consumers. Fast food intake was not significantly associated with the prevalence of overweight/obesity and statistically significant associations between overweight /obesity and abdominal obesity in the meat and alcohol patterns. Conclusion The fast food group had a food intake known to be unhealthy and was not associated with obesity/overweight. Certain dietary patterns were associated with obesity, diets high in the white rice food pattern in children and the meat and alcohol food patterns in adults.
