The purpose of this study was to find out the answer to the research
question "What are the key success factors of technology transfer &
commercialization in Korea?". To achieve this goal, three studies were
conducted and the results were summarized and provided in this study.
The title of the first research was "Analysis of Success Factors of
Technology Transfer & Commercialization through Systematic Literature
Review" and the analysis was conducted on 103 prior studies related to
technology transfer & commercialization by applying the method of
calculating the number of research literature by success factors. As a
result of the study, the four core success factors (technology diffusion
capacity, cooperation partnership, R&D capability, technology
commercialization capacity) were derived. The second study was titled
"Meta-Analysis on Factors Influencing Technology Transfer Performance"
and was conducted to examine the results of the first study by using the
meta-analysis method which is a very useful statistical method for
systematically combining and summarizing the statistical results of
empirical studies. As a result of analysis of 54 prior researches related to
technology transfer, four core success factors were derived: number of
researchers, external cooperation, dedicated organization, and technology
possession. The third research title was "Meta-Analysis on Success
Factors of Technology Commercialization." In order to identify the factors
influencing the performance of technology commercialization, 72 prior
studies related to technology commercialization were also analyzed by
meta-analysis and six key factors were derived: Marketing Capability,
Strategic Planning, Manufacturing Capability, Internal Cooperation, External
Cooperation, and Learning Capability.
As the result of three studies, the most notable variables are internal
cooperation, external cooperation, and cooperation partnerships which were
selected as the key success factor in all three studies. These three factors
are subordinate factors of relational capital based on social capital theory,
which have a high level of impact throughout the whole process of
technology transfer and technology commercialization.
For the successful technology transfer & commercialization, the policy
implication suggested by this study is that it is necessary to strengthen
internal & external cooperation as a cooperation partnership and in order
to establish mutual & multilateral cooperation structure among related
stakeholders in the process of technology transfer & commercialization, it
is necessary to set policy direction to expand education, guidance and
budget support.
