This case study had been focused on the work learning experiences of college students with part-time work experience, their workplace learning experiences and changes of their identities during their working. This study was conducted according to the method of qualitative case study. The research participants were 4 college students who had more than one year 's part-time job in Daegu and Kyungbuk area. I structured the semi–structured questionnaire and used that for the deep interviews on research participants. The main research contents were work experience, workplace learning experience, and identity change obtained from the part-time work of research participants.
The conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, the reason they got a part-time job was because of the economic satisfaction. But, they faced with “hardship” while they were working, and they have started to adapt themselves to the situation. They felt limits of doing both the role of student and the role of workers at the same time. So they’ve set out to find the better working conditions to work to be continuing both of the roles.
Second, college students have learned about the whole society through the job environment. Although their experience of part-time work was irrelevant to their majors at colleges, they were able to learn something. Of course, in order to doing both studying and working, they had to spend a lot of time and effort.
Third, participants were aware of 'identity as a student' and 'identity as an employee'. Also, they considered themselves to be likely to grow up. I was able to see that they was planning to their lives based on their experiences for their future. In this interview, I could see that participants were able to express how they are looking at themselves, how they are looking at the world, and what future they would make. In conclusion, human beings are constantly growing through workplace learning, their identities are shaped by what they experienced and workplace learning experience could be a major factor in this phenomenon.
There is a limit that this research did not take into account a variety of people, jobs, and regions. However, this study has an important implication that it shows that college students have difficulties in doing studying and working at the same time, but they have recognized themselves for a change in their own identities.
