The purpose of art education of the present time is ‘human formation through art’. Therefore, it is judged that art education needs to give children various opportunities for activities and develop their expressivity in their own style. In other words, the ultimate aim of art education is not to teach children only skills and train excellent artists with outstanding skills but to give them diverse opportunities to have activities, express their inner creativity, show their own individuality, and help them to become harmonious human beings with creative expressiveness and aesthetic sensibility. During the early childhood, which is a critical period in the process of human being’s growth, children experience lots of things spending most of their time on playing, so it may safely be said that their daily lives consist of a series of plays. Play art is what combines such play activities with art. This play-based art proceeds along with learners’ active and voluntary participation unlike other art activities focusing on drawing and making. Play art activities entertain and interest children, so the children do not feel bored with art expressing what they think freely. Children’s art activity is a way for them to express what they feel and think. In addition, they can feel pleasure in free self-expression getting away from conventional thinking. Therefore, a liberal environment for not simple drawing-oriented art activities but new ones promoting children’s unlimited imagination and divergent thinking needs to be provided. Most of the children aged from three to five years can participate in art activities only when they are in preschool educational institutions, so it was judged that there was a need to examine art activities in Nuri curriculum, which is a model curriculum for children aged from three to five. The result showed that the curriculum included art activities related to using various materials but not many for stamping. Therefore, this researcher considered that a design of teaching aids of play art for stamping activities to provide children with opportunities to explore a variety of materials and help them develop creativity, emotion, language, cognition, physical sociality and etc. was necessary. From this researcher’s three-year work experience in the art institutions for toddlers and pre-schoolers before designing teaching aids of play art, it was judged that the application of play art class to children aged from three to five―preschoolers going to kindergarten and daycare center―was the most effective. This researcher designed teaching aids for stamping play art by applying various patterns which had not existed before through the examples of teaching aids for play art and the use of EVA, which was a harmless material to humans. The designed teaching aids were applied to the play art class, and the study objects were 20 children aged from three to five in B kindergarten in Uksu-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, and six children aged from four to five in G art academy in Siji-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, Out of the twenty-six children, children aged three were six, four were ten and five were ten. The play art class was limited to a certain number of children in a confined environment. The class was applied to the children, and the results are as follows. First, the children were interested in the class using stamping teaching aids, and even those having difficulty in a drawing activity could easily had interest and actively participated in it. Second, the stamping activities created an accidental effect that the children could imagine what they would draw as they were questioned and talked with their teachers and the activities boosted the children’s creativity. Third, the art activities proceeded in a free and pleasant atmosphere, and most of the children were satisfied with what they did. Fourth, various lesson plans which could be applied to Nuri curriculum’s art activity content by topic were suggested by making use of the designed teaching aids. Since the class to which the teaching aids were applied was taught with a limited number of people in the restricted circumstances for a short term, there is a limitation to generalize the results. Therefore, systematic follow-up studies on teaching aids for play art in a wider range need to be carried out in the future. In addition, play activities, which can be considered as everything of early childhood, has high educational value, so it is expected that more studies on a variety of play-applied designs of art teaching aids will be continued.
