In this paper, we develop an in-line nondestructive sheet resistance measurement system for monitoring uniformity of aluminum textile’s conductivity manufactured in a wide roll-to-roll continuous process. Most nondestructive eddy current measurement systems adopt reflection type probes because of its high sensitivity. However, the roll-to-roll production equipment can cause vibration which generate lift-off effect. In the finite element method (FEM) simulation, the reflection type probes showed the result of about 38 ohm coil’s impedance change at 2 mm lift-off and the reflection type probes was susceptible to the change in the gap between the probe and specimen. To minimize this lift-off effect, the measuring system utilizes the transmission type probes consisting of a excitation coil and a pick-up coil positioned vertically. The excitation coil excited by an AC current induces an eddy current in the specimen and the induced eddy current was measured by the pick-up coil. The electronic system consisting of a current monitor circuit, AC to RMS converting circuit, and amplifying circuits were implemented and the circuit’s bandwidth was 15.91Hz. The inductance of sensing coil is 144.7 mH and the driving frequency is set as 2.9 MHz which was selected considering the coil’s natural frequency. The manufactured system could measure the sheet resistance ranging from 0.08 to 0.77 ohm/sq and the measurement accuracy was formed 1.5% and repeatability was formed 0.012 ohm/sq(1σ), that is 1.7% at the range of 0.08~ 0.77 ohm/sq. This in-line nondestructive sheet resistance measuring technique can be effectively applied to the roll-to-roll continuous process.
