The purpose of this study is to help the disabled students' school life by dividing the related variables that affect the school life adjustment into the protection variable and the risk variable. To this end, we set up the research questions as follows. First, is there any difference in school life adjustment according to disability type, gender, and class type? Second, is there any difference between the protection variable and the risk variable of students with disabilities? Third, what is the correlation between school life adjustment and related variables? Fourth, what is the effect of the protection variable on the student's adaptation to school life? Fifth, what is the effect of risk variables on school adjustment of students with disabilities? In this study, a questionnaire survey data was analyzed it conducted for 76 students with intellectual disabilities and 72 ADHD students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades who were attending inclusive education in special or general classes of elementary school. The main findings are as follows. First, the differences in the school life adjustment by the type of disability showed that the students with intellectual disabilities were more likely to adapt in the class attitude and friendship than the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) students. The positive personal behavior of boys according to their gender, class attitude, positive personal behavior, and school rules of the general classes than that of special classes. Second, there was a significant difference in the mean of risk and protective factors between intellectual disabilities and ADHD students. The protective variable was higher in the students with intellectual disabilities than ADHD students, and the risk variables were significantly higher in ADHD students except for anxiety. So students with intellectual disabilities were found to be more able to adapt to school life because of high protective variable and low risk variable. Third, as a result of the correlation between the variables of school life adjustment and related variables, all variables except the internal self-assertiveness of the personal protective variable showed a significant positive correlation with school life adjustment. On the other hand, in the case of personal risk variable, all variables except depression showed a negative correlation with school life adjustment. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the effects of a protective variable, it was found that self-control and ego-resilience among the personal protective variables had a significant positive effect, while self-assertion had a negative influence on the school life adjustment of disabled students. The teacher support which is social support variable and family support among the family protection variable have a significant positive effect. Whereas among the family related protective variables, democratic parenting style has a significant negative effect on school life adjustment. The effect of the self-control, ego-resilience, and teacher support on the school life adjustment is shown to have a moderating effect of the disability type. Fifth, the effects of the risk variable on school life adjustment of students with disabilities were significantly influenced. Among personal risk variables, delinquency and hyperactivity have a significant negative effect on school life adjustment. A parent-child relationship, among the family risk variables, had a negative effect, and teacher’s discrimination, among the social risk variables, had a significant negative effect on school life adjustment. The effect of the anxiety, delinquency, hyperactivity, parent-child relationship and teacher discrimination among risk variable on the school life adjustment is shown to have a moderating effect of the disability type. The results of this study are expected to provide basic data to understand the variables related to disabled students' adjustment to school life, to solve problems caused by maladjustment and to support a pleasant school life.
