In order to compensate for the lack of management system in the calculation of the amount of air pollutants that is calculated as the sum of current dust, SO2, and NO2, and to perform the integrated management of precursors, which are the frequent cause of high concentration of particulate matter, the estimation method and application of the particulate matter potentials of emission source for the integrated management of the condensible particulate matter and the secondary particulate matter was studied. The previous studies related to the mechanism of generation of condensable PM and secondary PM, the PM conversion factor, and the potential and contribution rate of precursors showed different results depending on country, region, and literature. Overall, PM2.5 formation rate by primary PM and NH3 was high, NOx conversion rate was underestimated, and VOC was mostly excluded. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the risk due to particulate matter increases and the citizens feel uneasiness, at high concentrations. In addition, nitrate(NO3-) at high concentrations was about 3 times higher than at low concentration. Meanwhile, at low concentration, sulfate and organic carbon were the main components. In this study, 5 precursors of primary dust, SOx, NOx, NH3 and VOC were considered for the purpose of reduction of particulate matter and integrated management of air pollutants. Particulate Matter Potentials(PMPs) was defined as summation of mass increase of the precursors in the atmospheric environment due to moisture absorption and oxidation and total particulate matter formation rate for each precursor. Also, the estimation method was proposed based on five principles and basic assumptions. PMPs are calculated by summing the product of the particulate matter potential factor and the emission amount for each precursor (PMPFi : the product of the PM equivalent factor(PMEFi) and the PM formation rate (PMFRi)). The total PMP index was calculated and compared with the calculated PMPF to reflect the increase of the mass due to absorption and oxidation of the precursors. The final PMP index was estimated ‘2.9886’, somewhat lower. This was not reflected in the presence of other substances such as carbonates or Cl ions other than the five precursors, and recently there was a lack of datum that adequately reflected the high concentration of PM. We proposed a method for estimating the PM potential of the precursors based on the 2015 CAPSS emission data.
