Our society is a collection of objects and humans, in which objects and humans continuously interact within a given space. A road is a passage that connects objects, humans, and space. Walking meets the reality through this passage among the relationship between objects, humans, and space. A road is an encounter, a communication, a connection, a way, and an enlightenment. Walking on a road is a symbol of making a relation, sharing, solution, composition, resistance, and emancipation. This research is an attempt to archive objectified and symbolized reality that I met in an instant while walking 'right now'. My walking is very personal and mundane, but it has meanings in documenting various images of our society via personal everyday life. Things that I meet while walking are a reality that sustains the history with its primal powers while living silently within the macroscopic historical trend. I walk their space in order to pay attention to their silence and listen to what they want to say. Walking is an encounter with self, as well as an encounter with things that exist in this world to me. That encounter, in my life, can be a teacher or a friend. Sometimes that encounter comes as a discomfort. I bear everything and work hard to communicate with every encounter because walking is an encounter with communication. One needs a space in which to walk in order to meet someone via walking. Space is an image of people who are living in that era. Therefore, changes in space are closely related with changes in living. A space is an important factor in reproducing memories and experiences. The memories and experiences about space, which encompass images of people who live in the era and changes in lives, is diverse and vast. I walk to search for a space where I can meet these images. I chose and visited a marketplace as the first space to encounter various people's life experiences. A marketplace is a necessary place for human living, but it is also a place where many social dilemmas occur. One can see the raw double-sided capitalism, but also non-capitalistic images. Exchanges of warmheartedness, giving a free extra pile of bean sprouts, communicating with regulars, and strangers exchanging greetings all happen in the marketplace. However, these marketplaces are powerless in the face of huge capital, as convenient and clean supermarkets drive them out and demolish them under the name of development. What will I meet inside here? A life in the city, with quick and convenient supermarkets and online shopping malls, is always dazzling and busy. I do not have time for thinking about the meaning and value of this space in which I am living. One day, I had a good chance to walk the historic site, Namsan and Namyoung-dong. I participated in '1987, Walking the Namsan-Namyoung-dong Road' and walked the road, facing the painful history and ardent desire for democratization that the space still holds within. I can feel my thoughts deepen through expansion of personal memories that I have met in a space related to social memories. I learned from the candlelight square that the histories held within the city have not been severed but can manifest themselves at any moment. In the square where people shouted out for resignation of a president who abused and monopolized the government, I have met with not only the experience of candlelight from 2002 and 2008 but also memories in that square that I have never personally experienced before. One can no longer find images of a grim march of scrum in rallies, which have acquired a sense of a peaceful cultural festival. I have faced the fact that political walking need not be grim by watching families, couples, and organizations walking freely with candlelight, flags, and handheld pickets. I have experienced synergy for power and happiness that results from being together, as well as boundless love and responsibility towards the others at the square. We returned to our everyday lives, continuously busy and dazed. We need time to escape from a hard day, rest, and contemplate in silence. When I need that time, I look for nature where I can relax my mind and body. Slowly walking roads in nature, I can empty my worries and contemplate my existence. Sometimes I am humbled by nature's wonders. The image of a countryside that I visit often is always different to me. Sometimes it is as if nature speak to me, revealing its mysterious presence. Sometimes nature moans in pain from human activities. And it keeps sending us signals. An encounter with nature is unpredictable and always new. In the process of preparing this paper, it was confirmed that newly created or expanded memory and reason through communicating with the objects encountered while walking are important subjects for archive. In order to documentation these, the historical approach of archiving based on archival science was discarded. In each chapter, a variety of documenting strategies were suggested, considering the objects encountered while walking and the characteristics of space. Each documenting used the method of data enumeration in Benjamin's . One of the mottoes at the International Conference on the Affect Theory held in the US in October 2015 was "Wreck the Formats," meaning to break out of the existing format and to create a new format. It explains well what the Walking archive is aiming at. Break up the existing fixed, unchanging archives and create new types of archives. Now the issue remains on how to share and divide the new type of archive called "Walking Archives" in a new way. While the purpose of public records supervision is for "safe preservation" and "efficient use," the object of the walking archive is for sharing. It is important that it objectifies and symbolizes tangible and intangible materials while walking and meeting. Also, it is significant for sharing with other people by changing my life through communication and realization with me. The specific way to communicate with the walking archive and world should continuously be contemplated. The obvious thing is that it is not a form of tied archive.
“To choose a subject for walking is giving a special meaning to universal behavior... The thought made a place which is passed by feet, the place which was made like that led to the thought. There is a story to be told from historical scenery. It is the story that returns to a historical place(Solnit, 2001/2017: 18).”
