The purpose of this study was to develop a scale that can quantitatively evaluate the self-management of university athletes and verify their validity through a series of processes. This study consists of three research methods. In Study 1, the concept of self-management of university athletes was analyzed through two integrated research methods: open questionnaire and Focus Group Interview (FGI). For the data collection, open questionnaires were conducted for 157 athletes attending Seoul and Gyeong-gi University. In order to supplement the gap between the open questionnaires, 14 university athletes participated in the focus group interview to collect data. An open - ended questionnaire was used for inductive content analysis and FGI adopted qualitative research analysis method. Through a series of research procedures, 8 general areas of self - management of university athletes were derived: body management, mental management, training management, game management, interpersonal management, equipment management, study management and goal management. In addition, through FGI, more field-centered and empirical data could be derived. Study 2 is a step of developing the self-management questionnaire and a measurement tool for university athletes. Based on the results of study 1, 68 items were set as initial items and composed of 5 Likert scale. The subjects were 568 athletes, followed by item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. After deleting 41 items, 27 items in 7 sub-factors were selected as final items. 27 items of 7 sub-factors were validated as scale through intensive validity and discriminant validity respectively. In order to improve the fit of the model in the confirmatory factor analysis process, items with low factor loadings and revision indices were identified and one question was deleted and modified to the appropriate model. 8 items were deleted and extracted as a total of 7 sub-factors (27 items). The fit indices were Q (x2 / df) = 2.754, GFI = .903, CFI = .918, IFI = .919, RMR = .037 and RMSEA = .056. All intensive validity values were calculated to be more than .70 and discriminant validity was found to be higher than the square of the correlation of each variable (). Finally, it consisted of 7 sub-factors that 4 items of body management, 3 items of mental management, 4 items of training management, 4 items of equipment management, 4 items of interpersonal management, 4 items of study management, and 4 items of goal management. Using the self-management scale developed through a series of research processes, students are expected to use gender (male / female), grade (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade), sports (group sports / individual sports) / 8 ~ 10 years / over 11 years), and analyzed the profile of 332 college athletes in order to find out the correlation between self - management according to player satisfaction and performance. As a result, there were differences according to gender, sport, career, athlete satisfaction, and performance, but there was no difference according to grade. In addition, the self - management scale of the athletic satisfaction have a positive influence on the athlete satisfaction and the performance of the athletes. Structural equation model fit was found to be Q (x2 / df) = 2.921, GFI = .905, CFI = .903, IFI = .904, RMR = .050 and RMSEA = .076. The self - management scale of university athletes developed through the research can be used not only as a quantitative measure of the athletic management of university athletes, but also as a basic data of effective player management for supervisors and coaches of university sports field.
