The purpose of this study is to develop a school violence prevention program using musical plays and to investigate whether there is a significant change in the tolerance level and coping ability toward school violence when applied to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. It is true that students do not feel safe at school due to the increasing rates of school violence, and Ministry of Education has implemented mandatory programs in an attempt to prevent school violence. However, these obligatory programs have not been effective because students do not have the opportunity to directly experience the serious consequences of school violence. Therefore, in this study, we designed a program guideline utilizing musical plays that allow students to act as a bully, a bullied student and a bystander. In this student-led program, students were able to gain knowledge, develop core values, and learn skills to deal with school violence through performing roles in musical plays. In analysis of questionnaires conducted before and after the role-play, meaningful and positive changes were observed in experimental groups in respect of permissive attitude and coping ability toward school violence in comparison to control groups. Therefore, we hope that this study and guideline will contribute positively to developing effective school violence prevention programs in the future.
