The Revised Curriculum of 2015 puts an emphasis on core capabilities and suggests them to bring up future talents capable of reflecting the aspects of a rapidly changing society in a flexible way and adjusting themselves to the knowledge and information society in a wise way. Students need methods to study effectively the core capabilities required in the overall curriculum and the ones required in individual subjects. Integrated learning is one of examples to promote their efficient learning. Integrated learning around cultural heritage will make a contribution to the richer learning plans of Gugak. This study thus found a topic in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and investigated instructional content for integrated learning between Gugak and other subjects. The investigator first selected heritage that might serve as a topic for integration in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and then integrated it with gugak to pick a subject to study before conducting research each instructional content and searching for instructional plans. First, Cheoyongmu, one of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage assets, was selected as a topic for integrated lessons between gugak and Physical Education. After appreciating Cheoyongmu and Pogurak together, the students felt the court music with their bodies through physical expressions and played the Five Colors Pogurak game developed by the investigator. Second, Pansori, which was designated as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, was selected as a topic in integrated lessons among gugak, Korean, and Science. The students checked the components of Pansori by comparing the Pansori work Heungboga and the story Heungbujeon and expressed a scene from Heungboga in shadow play by utilizing shadow size changes. Third, Nongak, one of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage assets, was used in integrated lessons between gugak and Morality. The students picked a Nongak instrument for themselves, practiced one, and played Nongak in ensemble by the group, confirming the value of cooperation. Fourth, Arirang, one of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage assets, was used in an activity of studying the concept of fractions in math. The students studied the notation method for Jeongganbo, thus understanding the concept of Samsobak and expanding the concept of fractions in math. Finally, the students studied and checked the concept of village proposed in Social Studies through folksongs related to the UNESCO heritage in integrated lessons between gugak and Social Studies. They studied the Chilmeoridang Yeongdeung Gut of Jeju, Danoje of Gangreung, and tug-of-war designated as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and understood the natural environments and features of a village naturally. The instructional plans proposed in the present study will hopefully add more diversity to the pool of gugak instructional plans for elementary school students and contribute to ongoing research on instructional plans for integrated learning applicable to fifth and sixth graders.
