(Timed Up & Go Test : TUG),

[Objective] This study aimed to analyze the sling exercise program on total knee replacement patients’ range of motion of knee joints, pain status, gait, and balance. [Subjects] Twenty total knee replacement patients were randomly sampled into the CPM group (n=10) provided with the existing passive intervention of CPM alone and the CWS group (n=10) with a combination of CPM and sling exercise. [Methods] The experiment was carried out for four weeks three days postoperatively in both groups. The patients were initially measured for the range of motion (ROM), the visual analogue scale (VAS), 10M walking test (10MWT), timed up & go test (TUG), and static balance (Romberg test). The CPM group was provided with a CPM-using intervention in five sessions weekly―40 minutes per session―for four weeks and the CWS group was provided with CPM in two sessions weekly and with a sling exercise program in three sessions weekly for four weeks. After the four-week intervention, they were measured again for the same items as in the initial measurement. [Results] No statistically significant inter-group difference was found in ROM after the experiment. In contrast, statistically significant intra-group differences were found after the experiment. Statistically significant inter-group differences were found in VAS after the experiment. Statistically significant intra-group differences were also found after the experiment. Statistically significant inter-group differences were found in 10MWT after the experiment. Statistically significant intra-group differences were also found after the experiment. Statistically significant inter-group differences were found in TUG after the experiment. Statistically significant intra-group differences were also found after the experiment. Statistically significant inter-group differences were found in each of C90, TL, and Vel, which indicated static balance in Romberg, after the experiment. Statistically significant intra-group differences were also found after the experiment. [Conclusion] Statistically significant improvement was found in both the group provided with CPM alone and the group with the combination of CPM and sling exercise after the experiment. Statistically significant improvement was found in all the items but ROM in both groups. These results demonstrate that the active intervention of sling exercise in addition to the existing passive intervention of CPM can be more useful for total knee replacement patients. These results are expected to be useful as basic data that can help treat total knee replacement patients.
