The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of smartphone addiction level and usage pattern on self efficacy. Based on the relationship of each variable, I tried to confirm the positive or negative usage of the smartphone. Also, I analyzed how smartphone usage affects self-efficacy and identified the impact of smartphone usage using stepwise multiple regression analysis. For this purpose, questionnaire surveys were analyzed for second-grade students attending high school. The results of the study are as follows. First, out of 287 respondents, 8 percent of respondents are smartphone addicts who use smartphone excessively, which are 25 students. Among them, there are eighteen male students and five female students. Both students at risk of addiction and students who are not at risk have used the smartphone for more than three years, and 80.1% of all students reported using the smartphone every day. Second, the intention for students to use the smartphone was the highest in ‘functionality and convenience’, and the lowest in ‘relationship maintenance’. Students used smartphone most to watch movies, TV, and videos. As a result of comparing the use patterns of the smartphone according to sex, female students were using various functions of the smartphone than male students and showed higher scores in intention to use. Among the subfactors, 'messenger(SNS)' and 'Internet shopping' functions use more time for female students than male students, whereas 'games' use more time for male students than female students. As a result of comparison of self-efficacy according to sex, male students showed higher self-efficacy than female students. Third, the risk group of addiction showed a higher intention level than students who are not at risk in the items of "information acquisition", "entertainment and leisure", "service integration", "functionality and convenience of use", and "fascination and fashion" among the intention to use the smartphone. As a result of comparing the usage times of the two groups, students of the addiction risk group used smartphone more in 'SNS' and 'listening music' functions. The self-efficacy difference between the two groups showed that self-efficacy was lower in the students at the risk of addiction than the students in the general user group. Fourth, there was a statistically significant correlation between smartphone use time and intention to use, and the level of smartphone addiction was positively correlated with both the intention to use the smartphone and use time of smartphone. On the other hand, self-efficacy showed a negative correlation with the intention to use smartphone and level of smartphone addiction. These results suggest that the higher the degree of addiction and the intention to use the smartphone, the lower the efficacy of high school students. Fifth, comparing the relative influence of smartphone usage intention and use time on self-efficacy, adolescents' intention to use smartphone has the significant negative impact on self-efficacy, while smartphone use time is not statistically significant but has a negative effect on self-efficacy. It is essential for the adolescent to understand how to use the smartphone and how they affect their self-efficacy. This will be a basic guideline for the use of smartphone which helps the formation of the self-efficacy of adolescents and will contribute to providing fundamental data for making a plan to utilize smartphone positively. Furthermore, It is expected to be a preventative approach to the excessive use of the smartphone.
