This study aims to interpret Yi-Sang’s writing attitude and poetry based on the problem consciousness that Yi-Sang’s poetry is a reflection of modern culture. In the 1930s, when modernism erupted in the history of Korean literature, Japan's colonial rule was in full swing in Choseon. Yi-Sang expressed this reality well in exchange for a modern city. Therefore, this article looks at his poetry as play·body·space and interprets them as language experiments, heterotopia and non-place, intertextuality, looking at his poetry as cultural planning. Here, ‘culture’ follows the concept that Johan Huizinga defined as the creation of play by human desire for autonomous expression. According to him, play is a struggle for something and an expression about something. The body that implements it reads the colonies depend on what Georg Simmel named ‘Sense Sociology.' The body, already distorted by colonial realities, dreams of a new space. The new space where Yi-Sang expected cause of poetry can be measured in form by heterotopia and non-space. It is about making a reality by own alter-ego through a mirror and making his inner imaginary space. And it is about moving a place that doesn't exist by self-portraits to ‘mimic’ oneself. These methodologies serve as the basis for the actual violation of modern space, while at the same time making her pursue oneness. In a basis, there is the will to overcome the daglocia of colonial modernity with language experiments. Actually, he experimented with foreign languages, numbers, symbols, and even figures. It was a different move from other Choseon writers who dreamed of linguistic and political independence to place the Choseon language in the position of modern languages. Furthermore, he embodied external text and the intertext of constantly summoning his own text. For that reason, this study tries to read Yi-Sang’s poetry through autonomous culture planning.
