Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous attention as a renewable energy source due to the excellent light-harvesting efficiency, low exciton binding energy, long electron-hole diffusion length, and high charge carrier mobility. In recent year, power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs dramatically increased because of massive studies, and their reported highest PCE exceeds 23%. The interfacial electronic structure of perovskite greatly impacts charge extraction and exciton quenching, and thus play a pivotal role in the PCE of PSCs. On the other hands, unfortunately, the relationship between device performance and interfacial electronic structure has not been well understood. Hence, integration study of electronic structure analysis at their interface and device physics is strongly necessary. In this study, I investigated the influence of the electronic structure perovskite itself and at the interface between perovskite material and charge extraction material by using the x-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS) and inverse photoelectron spectroscopy (IPES). In addition, to confirm the interfacial effect, we demonstrate the enhancement in PCE of PSCs by varying the interfacial level alignment. First, the effect of interfacial energetics between two-step spin-coated methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) with different methylammonium iodide (MAI) concentrations and C60 on the charge extraction efficiency is investigated. The electronic structures of perovskites are significantly varied by the MAI concentrations due to the changes in the residual precursor and MA+ defect content. It is observed the band offset minimized at the C60/MAPbI3 interface with device enhancement. The energy level alignment at the C60/MAPbI3 interface plays a crucial role in efficient charge extraction in PSCs. Second, we explore the effect of a nonionic surfactant, Triton X-100 (TX) additive in the poly(3,4-etylemedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). The surface of the TX-modified PEDOT:PSS layer showed high TX content, and thus the semi-metallic properties of PEDOT:PSS were suppressed conspicuously by its insulating nature. It was found that the TX additive inhibits interface recombination between PEDOT:PSS and MAPbI3, caused by the suppression of semi-metallic properties of the PEDOT:PSS surface. Third, we investigated the electronic structure at (FAPbI3)0.85(MAPbBr3)0.15 (mixed perovskite) with electron transport materials (ETMs) and hole transport materials (HTMs). And from the results, we evaluate the valence band offset (Φh) and conduction band offset (Φe) of mixed perovskite/TiO2 and mixed perovskite/HTMs, respectively. These results would give critical interpretation such as the carrier extraction and carrier recombination at the PSCs interface. Consequently, the modification of interfacial electronic structure in PSCs lead to the high performance with great stability. It is very important to control the charge transfer and recombination at the interface. These studies on the electronic structure of PSCs can contribute to further PSCs studies, and renewable energy source advancement.
