The purpose of this study is to examine the differences among parents' emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation, peer conflict, and self-harm behavior according to the social demographic characteristics of adolescents. Moreover, it is to verify the mediated effect of emotion dysregulation and the regulated effect of peer conflict depending on the influence of parental abuse to self-harm behavior of adolescents. Accordingly, the research questions are: First, are there any significant differences in self-harm behavior, emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation and peer conflict regulated by adolescent's gender and academic performance? Second, what is the relative influence of parental parents' emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation and peer conflict on self-harm behavior? Third, what about the mediated effects of emotion dysregulation triggered by emotional abuse of parents on self-harm behavior? Fourth, what is the regulated effect of peer conflict on the effect of parental emotional abuse on self-harm behavior? To this end, the study surveyed 700 students from two middle schools and three high schools based in Seoul, Gyeonggi on emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation, peer conflict and self-harm behavior. A total of 419 of the 530 collected questionnaires were used as final analysis, excluding 111 that were answered insincerely. As for data analysis, statistics were processed by T-test, One-way Anova, simple circuit analysis, and multiple return analysis using SPSS Win 21.0. The main results of this study are as follows. First, emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation, peer conflict and self-harm behavior were found to differ significantly depending on adolescent's gender and academic performance. Second, the variations that explains self-harm behavior of an adolescent appeared to be gradual, in order of peer conflict, emotional abuse, emotion dysregulation, and sexuality. Third, after examining the mediated effects of emotional abuse and self-harm behavior, it was found to have partial effect. Fourth, peer conflict has been shown to have a controlling effect on the effects of emotional abuse and self-harm behavior. This study is expected to help understand the specific mechanisms of self-harm behavior of adolescents and provide implications for therapeutic interventions by examining the effects of peer conflict along with the social demographic characteristics of adolescents, emotional abuse of parents, emotional control disorder, and peer conflict on self-harm behavior.
