This study examined the behavior intention of customers at skincare clinic based on the extended theory of planned behavior proven for its influence on the theory of consumer behavior. The main factors for the extended planned behavior were attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control, and heuristics (representativeness, availability, affect) . This study suggested a research model developed from the existing theory of planned behavior by including the heuristics indicating the intuitive behavior selection. For the research, this study conducted both documentary study and empirical study. The questionnaire measurement items used in the empirical study method were derived based on the preceding studies and composed with five-point Likert scale. Then, this study conducted a preliminary survey on 100 subjects before the survey and supplemented and revised the questionnaire after reviewing the goodness of fit, reliability, and validity of the construct. This study conducted a random sampling on 700 subjects with experience of using skincare clinic more than once and the survey was carried out on the national level via online and offline from January 21, 2019 to February 09, 2019. After excluding 38 questionnaires that were unfaithfully filled out, this study used total of 662 questionnaires. For the data analysis, this study used SPSS 20.0 statistics package and the empirical analysis results were as follows. First of all, in the examination of difference in perception toward the extended planned behavior based on the demographic characteristics, the subjects showed partially significant difference in perception based on the gender, age, and expense. The gender showed a significant difference in subjective norm and affect while age showed a significant difference in attitude, representativeness, and affect. In regard to expense per care, it had a significant difference in subjective norm, perceived behavior control, representativeness, and affect. For the difference in perception based on the number of skincare, all factors demonstrated a significant difference. On the other hand, all factors for academic background, residential area, occupation, and annual income had no significant difference. Secondly, in the analysis on different extended planned behavior depending on the type of skincare clinic, the subjects showed a significant difference in subjective norm and affect among the factors of planned behavior. Third, in the examination on how the extended planned behavior or skin care clinic users influence on the behavior intention, the attitude, subjective nor, perceived behavior control, representativeness, availability, and affect all had a significant influence. Among the factors, ‘representativeness’ had the biggest influence on the behavior intention of skincare clinic customers. Fourth, this study analyzed how the extended planned behavior influence on the behavior intention depending on the type of skincare clinic. The analysis result showed that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control had a significant influence on behavior intention at general skincare clinic and medical skincare clinic. Also, the ‘attitude’ had the highest influence on both general skincare clinic and medical skincare clinic. On the other hand, in the examination of heuristics’ influence depending on the type of skincare clinic, representativeness, availability, and affect all had a significant influence on the general skincare clinic with ‘representativeness’ of highest influence. On contrary, the hypothesis was denied on the medical skincare clinic as other heuristics (availability, affect) other than ‘representativeness’ had no significant influence. Such results showed that the extended planned behavior factors influencing on the skincare clinic differ depending on the type of skincare clinic. This may have happened as the extended planned behavior of consumers differs depending on the distinctive service provided by the skincare clinic. Fifth, when the prior knowledge in the extended planned behavior was set as a moderating variable, it had a moderating role at all heuristics factors except ‘representativeness’. This study suggested theoretical and practical implications for the skincare clinics through the extended theory of planned behavior based on the empirical analysis. Furthermore, this study suggested a practical marketing for vitalizing the skincare clinic industry.
