Korea is rapidly entering into aging society with the elderly 65 years of age or over exceeding the population ratio of 14 percent. In the upcoming 2026, the number of elderly people will reach 11.1 million (21%), which will be a full-fledged aged society. As of the end of 2018, 60.3% of the people with disabilities will be the elderly disabled, more than half of the total, and the elderly disabled will need social protection and responsibility in the dual suffering of the disabled and the elderly. Against this background, this study examined the mediating effects of self-efficacy and disability acceptance in the relationship between disability discrimination experience and life satisfaction, and predicted that the life satisfaction of disabled persons, which is low due to disability discrimination, will be improved through dual mediation of self-efficacy and disability acceptance. And in order to contribute to the improvement of life quality of the elderly disabled who are suffering from a dual stress of the elderly and the disabled, an effort was made in this study to compare and analyze the elderly disabled and the adult disabled. This study utilized the second survey data of the Employment Panel Survey for the Disabled, which was constructed in 2017 by the Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled. The Employment Panel Survey for the Disabled was conducted by personal interviews (TAPI) using a tablet PC for 4,054 panel members nationwide among the registered disabled (ages 15 to 64) who live in the nation as of May 15, 2016 and are prescribed in Article 2 of the Welfare Act for the Disabled every year from May to August. Of these, this study extracted and used 951 elderly disabled (55-65 years old) and 3,103 adult disabled (20-54 years old) for analysis. Main research results can be summarized as follows: First, Discrimination experiences between the elderly disabled and the adult disabled were lower than 2 points, and self-efficacy, disability acceptance and life satisfaction were higher than the median value respectively. As a result of comparing the two groups, the adult disabled had more discrimination experience than the elderly disabled, and the self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction level turned out to be statistically significant. And the more discrimination experience, the lower self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction, so the discrimination experience of the adult disabled was more than that of the elderly disabled. Second, as a result of analyzing the difference of discrimination experience, self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction based on socio-demographic characteristics of the elderly disabled, there was a difference between the groups but there was no difference in the results of analysis between the elderly disabled and the adult disabled. In both the elderly disabled and the adult disabled, younger groups had more discrimination experience than older groups, and the level of self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction level was also higher in younger groups. As for the difference based on education level, there was more discrimination experience in the middle school graduates group, the disabled without a spouse, the disabled belonging to the non-economic activity population, the welfare recipients, the lower subjective economic status, and the residents of a metropolitan area, and the level of self-efficacy, disability acceptance and life satisfaction was also lower. As for the difference based on gender, it was significant only in the case of the adult disabled, male had lesser discrimination experience than female, the level of their self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction was also higher. As for the difference based on age, there was more discrimination experience in 55-60 years old group of the elderly disabled and 20-29 years old group of the adult disabled, and the level of their self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction was lower. Third, as a result of analyzing discrimination experience, self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction based on health characteristics and disability characteristics of the elderly disabled, there was a clear difference between groups, and there was a similarity between the elderly disabled and the adult disabled. In other words, if the subjective health condition is better, there is no chronic illness other than the disorder, the disorder was not improved or changed, the disabled person does not need the help of other person, the disabled does not need regular treatment, the disorder is only external and mild, or the disorder is not redundant, there was less discrimination experience, and the level of self-efficacy, disability acceptance, and life satisfaction was high. Fourth, the discrimination experience of both the elderly disabled and the adult disabled had a negative effect on life satisfaction, and this negative effect was dually mediated by self-efficacy and disability acceptance. In other words, the more discrimination experience, the less life satisfaction, but its strength is somewhat lessened by the mediation of self-efficacy and disability acceptance.
