This study is a single case study to examine the process of art therapy centered on modeling activities for the development of visual perception as well as fine motor skills of the children with neurodevelopment disorder, and the changes that occur within the process. The visual perception development test (K-DTVP-2) and fine motor development test (KISE Development Index) were conducted to measure the level of development of the visual perception and fine motor skills of the children with neurodevelopment disorder and to use the data as the support material. The purpose of the tests is to examine the process of the development of the visual perception and fine motor skills of the children with neurodevelopment disorder. The participant in the study is a seven-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with moderate mental weakness, which include the retardation in the areas of language, cognition, movement, as well as visual perception and fine motors. The total of 24 sessions of 50-minute art therapy were conducted twice a week from the July to the October of 2019. To examine the changes in the visual perception and the fine motor skills of the participant, the study conducted the tests of K-DTVP-2 Index and KISE Development Index before and after the overall therapy, the results of which were used as the support material. The study also included the analysis of the data from the writings from the recordings of the therapy sessions, observation journal, videos, photos of the artworks, as well as from the analyzed data from the art therapy sessions. The results of this case study are as follows: First, through the modeling-centered art therapy, the participant showed the improvement in the coordination between her eyes and hands, as well as the development in her visual perception towards different colors or forms, as she explored various media and immersed herself in the activities in which she was able to be active. Second, through the process of the modeling-centered art therapy sessions, as the participant’s hand movements became more sophisticated and her responses became faster, she showed the improvement in the ability to control the agility and power of her fingers, as well as the development in her fine motor skills. Third, the autonomy of the participant was reinforced as she was able to freely explore the media and therefore grew her interest in the activities; the subject also showed the positive change of her self-expression being improved along with the natural development in her language skills. Fourth, along with the natural development in the coordination of the participant’s eyes and hands through the art therapy processes, she was able to create her own sculptures and showed her satisfaction and sense of achievement towards the result. There was also a positive change in the participant’s emotional aspect, as she improved the resilience for trying again despite her mistakes. The study is a single case study about the influences of art therapy towards the visual perception and fine motor skills of the children with neurodevelopment disorder, and the significance of this study lies in that it attempted to understand what kind of experiences that a child with neurodevelopment disorder would go through in the process of art therapy, and the possible changes from those experiences.
