The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of positive psychology based group art therapy on self efficacy and subjective happiness of art therapy major students. For this purpose, this study was conducted for art therapy major students at C University in Gyeonggi-do. Among the students who indicated their willingness to participate, 20 participants were selected according to the research purpose and divided into an experimental group and a control group. The 10 experimental group participants entailed on six weekly 90-minute group art therapy program based on positive psychology from May 2 to May 30, 2019. During each session, as an essential part of this research, participants created art images as well as self written reflections to assist their internal search. The 10 control group was participants just involved in pre- and post-tests. The quantitative data of the study analyzed using R program for reliability, independent sample t-test, pre-post score point average and Wilcoxon signed rank test. Qualitative results analyzed the variation of self-efficiency, subjective euphoria, and self reflective writing according to the core principles of positive psychology. The results of this study are as follows. First, positive psychology based group art therapy showed a positive effect on the self-efficiency of art therapy major students, and statistically significant changes appeared(t=-4.45, p<.05). Second, positive psychology based group art therapy showed a positive effect on subjective happiness of art therapy major students, and statistically significant changes appeared (t=-2.80, p<.05). Third, after qualitative examination of the effect of group art therapy based on positive psychology on the self-efficiency and subjective happiness of art therapy major students, a positive change appeared. In conclusion, the positive psychology based group art therapy program is effective in improving self-efficacy and subjective happiness of art therapy major students. These results were positive psychology-based collective art therapy activities that found their positive resources by understanding themselves from a positive perspective and exploring the inside. Also, the reciprocal support and support of the group art therapy activities, which were naturally shared with the group members, seemed to have had a positive effect on the self-efficiency and subjective happiness of art therapy major students. Accordingly, the findings of this study contribute to the field of art therapy by providing empirical evidence and basic data that positive psychology based group art therapy is effective in improving the self-efficiency and subjective happiness for art therapy major students. I hope that this study will provide a happy life to art therapy major students and contribute to their growth as professionals.
