This study aimed to investigate the correlation between parents’ socioeconomic status and their children’s academic achievement. The main purpose of the study is to find the ultimate principle of increasing income inequality. The study was designed in three stages. First, from the analyzing statistics and precedent researches, it turned out that earnings inequality is the most influential factor for income inequality. According to the statistic from OECD, ‘Interdecile ratio P90/P10’, Korea is the country with high income inequality, and it ranks at the fourth among twenty-two countries of the OECD members. Second, from the statistics and relative researches, it turned out that educational inequality is the most influential factor for earnings inequality. According to the statistic from OECD, ‘Relative earnings by educational attainment’, having a higher level of education result in an increased average salary. Also, one statistic result from Korea has revealed that a salary income for people who have a bachelors’ degree or more is much higher than those who graduate from college, high school, middle school, or others. At last, a statistic has conducted to find the most influential factor for educational inequality, and in this study, parents’ socioeconomic status is mainly focused as a factor for educational inequality. A regression analysis with OECD PISA database from 2006 to 2015 has used as a method for the study. The regression analysis conducted for examining the influence of parents’ socioeconomics status on their children’s PISA achievement in thirty-six OECD member of countries, and the two more PISA members, Brazil and Hong Kong. Moreover, the comparative analysis conducted internationally by extracting the results of seven countries - Korea, Hong Kong, Canada, Finland, Norway, Chile, Brazil - among thirty-eight countries. As a result of the regression analysis, the correlation coefficient shows a positive slope which means that parents’ socioeconomic status tend to influence more their children’s academic achievement. From the result of the seven countries each, it is shown that Korea has the highest correlation coefficient, and the change in correlation coefficient is increased sharply. For the perspective of the equal opportunity in education, the result of this study suggested the educational policy direction for equal opportunity in education.
