Two-fluid 모형의 이산화된 보존방정식은 PIMPLE(Pressure-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation)알고리즘을 통해 계산되어 압력장과 속도장을 예측하였고, 정상상태 해석에는 SIMPLE(Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation)이 사용되었으며, 시간과 공간의 이산화는 2차 오일러 및 중앙차분 방식이 적용되었다.

Two-phase flow inside the pipe can be easily observed at various industrial sites. This study aims to the flow of bubbles inside a pipe using the 1-D centerline-based U-shaped pipe mesh generation technique with two-fluid model in the open-source CFD library OpenFOAM and commercial software ANSYS Fluent. In order to investigate the effect of the pipe shape on the two-phase flow inside the curved pipe, several zones were created through the one-dimensional centerline-based mesh generation. The discretized conservation equations of the two-fluid model were calculated using the Pressure-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation (PIMPLE) algorithm to predict the pressure and velocity fields. For steady-state analysis, SIMPLE (Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation) was used. Second-order Euler and the central difference scheme were used for the time and spatial discretization. Before analyzing the two-phase flow in the pipe, we validated the accuracy of the two fluid model through broken dam and bubble column benchmark cases. According to the results for four different directions of gravity, the flow pattern in the upstream flow is strongly influenced by the distribution of bubbles at the inlet surface, whereas the downflow shows the same bubble patterns regardless of the inlet conditions. Pressure drop by kinetic energy, potential energy, and viscous dissipation was measured in each volume zone of the pipe. In addition, the pressure drop due to viscous dissipation is always greater in curved section than straight pipe in single-phase flow, but it is not in two-phase flow. In conclusion, it can be seen that the shape of the rising bubble in the vertical pipe is influenced by the inlet condition, and in the case of two-phase flow, the frictional resistance of the curved pipe is not always greater than that of the straight pipe due to the buoyancy effect. In addition, the total amount of pressure drop across the pipe was almost the same while the local pressure drop due to viscous dissipation can be different.
