Due to the explosive spread of smart devices, mobile users are actively using various services based on cloud computing such as Google Docs and Flickr. In addition, the development of high-speed network technologies such as 5G has led to increased interest in real-time gaming and immersive content streaming services. Cloud computing has played an important role over the past decades, providing powerful computing capabilities and high-capacity storage space to efficiently deliver these services to mobile users. Despite the improvements of these technology, the centralized nature of cloud computing cannot guarantee acceptable transfer rates and low latency, which could be a critical requirement for these services. To meet these requirements, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) was introduced, where MEC servers are deployed at the edge of the network near to the mobile users for supporting cloud computing through minimizing backhaul bandwidth consumption and end-to-end delay. In other words, the purpose of MEC is to move the computation away from cloud computing and towards the edge of the network to perform computing tasks and provide services on behalf of the cloud. Also, by moving services to the edge, it is possible to provide content caching, service delivery and storage resulting in fast response times and better transfer rates. Although the MEC architecture is located at the edge of the network to provide mobile users with low-latency service delivery, there is lack of studies on the robust and efficient architectures for ultra-low delay service and continuous service delivery. Therefore, this dissertation proposes a variety of MEC architectures to provide ultra-low delay services and continuous service delivery. To this end, this dissertation proposes three MEC architectures. First, it presents the hierarchical MEC architecture that can provide efficient service delivery by hierarchically arranging MECSs. Second, it presents the Zone-based architecture managing MECSs in the concept of Zone to provide low-latency and continuous service delivery even when mobile users move frequently. Third, it presents an architecture that utilizes a user's mobile device as an MECS. Simulation results show that the architectures proposed in this dissertation can provide continuous service delivery and low latency service even if the mobile user moves frequently or the number of mobile users increases. Finally, the MEC architecture is designed and reviewed through the implementation of the juice recipe recommendation system in the MEC environment.
