This study aimed to examine the effect of volunteers’ trust as a dimension of social capital on their volunteer activities. It divided volunteers’ trust into interpersonal and public trust, and intended to identify the effect that these two dimensions of trust had on volunteer activity satisfaction and continuity. To this end, this study conducted a survey with 191 volunteers who were working in community service centers of 31 cities and guns in Gyeonggi province, and analyzed the collected survey data, using the SPSS version 22.0 program. First, it analyzed the general characteristics of the research participants and the descriptive statistics of the variables. Then, a factor analysis was conducted to test the construct validity of the main variables, Cronbach's α was used to test the reliability of them, a correlation analysis was performed to identify the direction and degree of the relationships between the variables, and lastly, two multiple regression analysis models were used to examine the relationships of interpersonal and public trust on volunteer activity satisfaction and continuity. The analysis results were as follows. First, interpersonal trust was found to have a positive influence on volunteer activity satisfaction. This shows that the higher interpersonal trust volunteers have, the higher satisfaction with volunteer activities they feel. Second, public trust was also analyzed to exert a positive effect on volunteer activity satisfaction. This indicates that the higher public trust volunteers have, the greater satisfaction with volunteer activities they have. Third, interpersonal trust was found to positively influence volunteer activity continuity. This reveals that the higher interpersonal trust volunteers have, the higher continuity of volunteer activities they show. Fourth, public trust was also analyzed to positively affect volunteer activity continuity. This shows that the higher public trust volunteers have, the higher volunteer activity continuity they show. Based on the above research results, this study makes the following suggestions for the vitalization of volunteer activities. First, trust of social capital has a positive effect on volunteer activity satisfaction. Therefore, for the improvement of the satisfaction, it is necessary to provide education and programs based on close trust relationships with relevant people and public servants and organizations. Second, trust as a dimension of social capital exerts a positive influence on volunteer activity continuity. Regular education and timely recognition and rewards can increase volunteers’ satisfaction. Higher social trust positively influences volunteer activity satisfaction and continuity and then volunteer activities are promoted. This becomes a foundation to build a high level of social trust. This study hopes that volunteer activities will be actively carried out based on social capital, which in turn will be a cornerstone of the qualitative growth of community development.
