Theater is a special space consisting of stage and auditorium where performers show artistic acts of aesthetic principles to audience through physical and vocal expressions. Performing arts are becoming more important in modern society. The intrinsic characteristic of performances is 'realism', which is a big difference from the general media. Depending on the type of space of the performing arts, the method of delivery is somewhat different, and the spatial form of a proscenium stage is recognized as the most common type of theater. However, architectural research on theaters for well-made performing arts, which are leading the performing culture of the present era, is relatively insufficient. Research on theaters shows a clearly increasing trend in comparison with the past, but it is still focused on the purpose of using the theaters such as multi-purpose theaters, musical theaters, opera theaters, and concert halls. In contrast, analysis and understanding of the hardware configuration of the stage space for overall production of performing arts and the opinions and demands of various groups who operate and use them are still insufficient. In other words, guidelines and reference materials for the stage and auditorium construction suitable for performing arts are relatively lacking. Therefore, there are difficulties resulting from the lack of understanding when planning for theater facilities for performing arts. The purpose of this study is to develop materials for the construction of better theaters for performing arts through the proscenium stage, which is still widely used. Despite its relatively long history, proscenium stages still exist in many theaters and are newly constructed. There are some negative aspects inherent in proscenium theater, but it is still widely used because of its structural rationality and efficiency. In this paper, we examines the relationships among the theater space structures of the proscenium theater form and performs an in-depth analysis of how proscenium forms can be projected and mutually influence with the theater for successful performing arts. Furthermore, we examine the effects of the detailed factors of domestic proscenium theaters such as total space, prop space, waiting space, design space, and physical space on the reliability and satisfaction through practitioners and performers in the field. Then we present a new proposal for the roles and forms of theaters from the operator’s perspective. To this end, we derive the spatial components of theater based on the existing research papers and data on the theater space, and set up a research model and hypotheses to conduct research and analysis on the effects of these components on the performers. The results of this study are as follows. First, when the effects of theater space factors on the trust of performers were examined, the total space, prop space, waiting space, design space, and physical space among the theater space factors had significant effects on the trust of the performers. Second, when the effects of theater space factors on the satisfaction of the performers were examined, the total space, prop space, waiting space, design space, and physical space among the theater space factors had significant effects on the satisfaction of the performers. The space factors that affected the trust and satisfaction of performers examined in this study were “waiting space factors,” which are related to the appropriate area and lighting of the space where the performers wait before performing based on trust of the theater facilities for successful performance. The most important factors in the satisfaction of theater were “physical space factors” such as the spatial position, layout, area, and ceiling height of the stage.
