Abstract
This study, taking a step further from the existing studies that the impact factors of social enterprises will affect the performance of social enterprises, was to examine the perception differences in the influence relationship between social enterprise impact factors and social enterprise performance according to social enterprise representatives (social enterprise representatives, social enterprise employees, buyers, related civil servants). Also, this study attempted to identify differences in social enterprise impact factors and social enterprise performance perception according to demographic characteristics (gender, age, education level, income level, region, type of industry, employees). To achieve this research purpose, both a literature survey and a questionnaire survey were conducted, and for the questionnaire survey, statistical analysis methods such as validity analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t‐test, variance analysis, and regression analysis were used. As a result, first, for the hypothesis that social enterprise impact factors (personal, strategic, managerial competence, Socio‐environmental and institutional support) will affect the performance of the social enterprise, it was confirmed that there is a perception that social enterprise stakeholders (representatives, employees, and related civil servants) have a decision‐making structure among management competencies in social enterprise performance, in other words, the advanced corporate culture through smooth communication between representatives and employees has the greatest influence on the performance of social enterprises. Among the strategic factors, it was found that product quality and awareness were also recognized as important variables in the performance of social enterprises. Second, among the institutional factors, indirect support from the government and local governments, such as consulting and education, and public relations factors among strategic factors were unexpectedly perceived as negative in the performance of social enterprises. Third, according to social enterprise employees characteristics (social enterprise representatives, social enterprise employees, buyers, related civil servants), as to the hypothesis that there will be differences in the influence relationship between the impact factors of social enterprise (personal, strategic, managerial competency, social and environmental and institutional support) and the performance of social enterprise, it is confirmed that representatives of social enterprises perceive product quality and awareness as the most influential factors in social enterprise performance. Fourth, it is a slightly different result from the fact that the decision‐making structure has the biggest influence of management competency factors in the whole stakeholders of social enterprises. Of course, it is recognized that social enterprise representatives have the second biggest influence on the performance of social enterprise decision making among social competency factors, and that the use of governance has the third greatest influence among social and environmental factors. In addition, it was confirmed that employees of the social enterprise perceived that product quality and awareness among the strategic factors had the greatest influence on the performance of the social enterprise, similar to representatives of the social enterprise. Next, the decision‐making structure among management competency factors and the use of governance among social and environmental factors were also recognized as factors influencing social enterprise performance. But in terms of the difference between social enterprise representatives and social enterprise employees, among the personal factors, it was confirmed that social enterprise employees perceive that the social enterprise representatives' corporate experience was a factor influencing the performance of the social enterprise. On the other hand, it was confirmed that civil servants related to the social enterprise had significant differences in recognition from representatives and employees of the social enterprise. That is, related civil servants recognized that among the institutional factors, support for the development of channels from the government and local governments had the greatest impact on the performance of social enterprises, and next, among the institutional factors, of the factors of direct support from the government and local governments and management competency factors, it was confirmed that they recognized that the decision‐making structure had a great influence on the performance of the social enterprise. Fifth, on the hypothesis that there will be a significant difference between social enterprise impact factors and social enterprise performance perception according to the social and demographic characteristics of social enterprise participants (gender, age, education level, income level, region, type of industry characteristic, employees characteristic), men rather than women in gender, those who are higher in age, and those who have higher education level in education level, and in terms of the income level, the higher income groups were more positively aware of the impact factors of social enterprises and the performance of social enterprises. In terms of the area, the urban and rural areas were more positively recognized than the urban areas, and in terms of type of industry, the social business, manufacturing industry, and souvenir type of industry were more positively recognized than the service industry. In addition, it was confirmed that the representatives of the social enterprise were more relatively positively aware of the impact factors of the social enterprise and the performance of the social enterprise. Based on these results, it was found that a differentiated policy is needed according to social enterprise employees (representatives, employees, and related civil servants) in order for social enterprises to succeed in the future, and also it can be seen that various improvement measures for the success of the social enterprise should be presented according to the demographic characteristics. On the other hand, social enterprises, as suggested in the introduction, are new attempts to balance the pursuit of public interest emphasized in the public domain and profit pursuit emphasized in the private sector to compensate for market and government failures. It is said that a social enterprise is, in a word, a public profit pursuit. Today, as capitalism, which seeks only the profits of individuals and businesses, is on the way to decline, the public interest and sociality of enterprises are emphasized, and as part of this challenge, a social enterprise appears to have emerged. In other words, a social enterprise is an enterprise that conducts the production and sale of goods or services, and sales activities, with social values as a priority, unlike traditional enterprises that have pursued only economic values. It is meaningful in that this social enterprise connects the vulnerable class to the labor market, develops the local economy through vitalization of local communities, meets the needs of public services, and achieves an ethical management culture and market through corporate social contribution. In a word, it can be said that a social enterprise is not to hire for food to sell, but to sell food to hire. That is to say, if an enterprise neglects public interest and seeks only profits, now, the enterprise’s vested interests can never be guaranteed. Therefore, to survive today, enterprises must be interested in pursuing corporate sociality and ethical business management, and in addition, because it is directly related to the survival of the enterprise, the enterprise should no longer be indifferent to sociality.
