This study predicted the motivators affecting donation and tipping behaviors and made empirical analysis through literature and theoretical review to identify the motivators for donation and tipping behaviors. Donation behavior is an act of helping those in trouble in an altruistic way and is probably motivated by egoism, which involves satisfaction and face-saving as a result of such an act. Tipping behavior is probably motivated by altruism, which involves fair reward for a service provider's efforts, as well as by egoism, which involves the expectation of better service in the future. It was expected, therefore, that donation and tipping behaviors would be motivated by egoism and altruism and be spontaneous behaviors in good will with common motivators. It was also predicted that there were egoistic and altruistic motivators affecting donation behaviors alone and egoistic and altruistic motivators affecting tipping behaviors alone. The objectives of this study were as follows: first, to determine the effects of the egoistic and altruistic motivators as common antecedent variables in donation and tipping behavior models on donation and tipping behaviors, believing that both types of behavior had common motivators; second, to determine the effects of the egoistic and altruistic motivators added to donation and tipping behavior models on donation behaviors, believing that motivators affecting donation behaviors alone were added; and third, to determine the effects of the egoistic and altruistic motivators added to donation and tipping behavior models on tipping behaviors, believing that motivators affecting tipping behaviors alone were added. The common motivators for donation and tipping behaviors were a sense of fulfillment, ostentation, immediate benefits, fairness in the altruistic aspect, and citizenship as a consumer; the added motivators affecting donation behaviors alone were empathy with others and moral identity and those affecting tipping behaviors alone were self-empathy in the egoistic aspect and gratitude expression in the altruistic aspect. This study obtained the following results: First, as for the egoistic and altruistic motivators as common antecedent variables of donation and tipping behaviors, donation behaviors were affected by citizenship as a consumer and a sense of fulfillment and tipping behaviors were affected by a sense of fulfillment, fairness, citizenship as a consumer, and ostentation (-). Second, as for the effects of the egoistic and altruistic motivators added to donation and tipping behavior models on donation behaviors, donation behaviors were affected by moral identity, ostentation (-), a sense of fulfillment, and citizenship as a consumer. Third, as for the effects of the egoistic and altruistic motivators added to donation and tipping behavior models on tipping behaviors, tipping behaviors were affected by gratitude expression, self-empathy (-), citizenship as a consumer, a sense of fulfillment, immediate benefits, and ostentation (-). This study is academically significant in that it has confirmed the association between donation and tipping behaviors and identified the common motivators, the motivators for donation behaviors, and the motivators for tipping behaviors through comparison between donation and tipping behavior mechanisms. On the basis of this empirical study on the motivators for donation behaviors, it is necessary to develop an efficient and systematic donator management program in practice, which is expected to lead to long-term donation. The identification of the motivators for tipping behaviors can make it possible to manage customer relationships efficiently and, ultimately, can help companies reduce management costs, allow service providers earn greater income, and improve the quality of service, which can lead to repeated purchase.
