This study investigated the use of music in clinical application by professional certified music therapists in Korea with an undergraduate degree or higher. To this end, researchers categorized music into live music, recorded music, and mixed music. The survey was conducted online from March 18, 2020, to April 5, 2020. The researchers sent the questionnaires through the official e-mails of the National Association of Korean Music Therapists and Korean music therapy association to music therapists who are registered members of the association. A total of 201 members responded to the e-mail, and 161 questionnaires were analyzed, excluding 40 sets of questionnaires with incomplete responses. The result showed that music therapists most frequently used live music and that music therapists used different types of music according to the diagnosis of the majority in the group and the form of the session. The technique most often used in live, recorded, and mixed music was the active method of singing, the receptive method of listening, and the active method of instrumental recreation, respectively. The highest response by music therapists to the reason for using a particular category of music was 'allows the client a direct experience of music' for live music, and 'allows the use of music that is difficult to express live during clinical sessions’ for recorded and mixed music. Also, most music therapists responded that the suitability of music regarding clinical situations should be taken into consideration. This study showed that music therapists in Korea implement music in a variety of ways according to clinical characteristics and treatment methods. The significance of this study lies in the contribution to research on the use of music by providing baseline data.
