Mono-ethnicity, whether viewed as a shared blood or a cultural community that shares the same perceptions, has now become an old concept. Although all indicators of our society point to a rapid entry into a multi-cultural society, it is true that our perception change is significantly slower than that. Because of their consistent policy of strong assimilationism and paternity to learn Korean culture rather than acknowledging and harmonious coexistence of various cultures, customs, and traditions, they have formed a sense of difference with the mainstream groups of our society. Our society's rejection of this sense of heterogeneity deserves to be called ‘Xenophobia’. If education neglects its role in improving and overcoming this perception, this xenophobia phenomenon is likely to be passed on to the next generation through the influence of the older generation and the media. Therefore, starting from the necessity of cultivating a sense of solidarity and recognition of each other as subjects with rights for a happy life in the community of members of society, I will analyze the nature and situation of the xenophobia consciousness that hinders it and deepens the conflict between groups. As a clue to solving this problem and forming a harmonious community, this research aim to find a solution in multi-cultural education that learns and recognizes various cultures and grows into a just global citizen. This study analyzes the causes of the xenophobia in our society, develops and implements multi-cultural education to overcome these phenomenon, and verifies that students' multi-cultural acceptance is enhanced as an effect. The research questions to achieve this goal are as follows. First, what is the cause of the xenophobia phenomenon in our society? Second, how to design multi-cultural education program for mutual recognition and coexistence? Third, is it possible to promote students' multi-cultural acceptance through cultural diversity education? The research method is an action research in which quantitative and qualitative analysis are mixed for one class in the fifth grade of elementary school. By integrating various subjects, a total of 10 sessions were developed for learning multi-cultural projects by integrating various subjects. There are five major types of programs: (1) Fostering global citizenship, (2) Improving awareness using various video clip, (3) Physical activities, (4) Reading books, (5) Surveying and presenting were mixed and composed. Before and after the project learning, a multi-cultural acceptance test(KMCI-A) was conducted to investigate changes in students. Also, through the pre-test and post-test conducted in this study, it was confirmed that students' multi-cultural acceptance was improved through 10 sessions. In addition, it was confirmed that students' multi-cultural acceptance was improved through various words, presentations, and impressions that students used during the project learning. This study is meaningful in that it has developed and implemented a multi-cultural education program to promote multi-cultural acceptance in non-face-to-face situations caused by COVID-19. Meanwhile, it will be great if there are many attempts to compensate for the various limitations of this program, the limitations of the sample, learning topics, and the learning methods. I hope that more attempts to make the global world a place where harmony, coexistence and justice live, rather than discrimination and hate, will begin in the classroom.
