Recently, global IT companies are paying attention to realistic media and virtual reality technologies as next-generation media platforms with the launch of 5G. In addition, consumer spending patterns are rapidly changing from a shared economy to a subscription economy. This study observed the intent of use for the perceived value and evaluation of virtual reality (VR) and digital content subscription services, focusing on the consumer-based value-based acceptance model (VAM). The hypothesized model was validated with a PLS structural equation analysis of 317 survey results. The representative benefits and sacrifice characteristics of VR contents and the representative characteristics of subscription services were selected as potential variables and the correlation between perceived benefits and perceived sacrifice and perceived value was studied. The results of the study showed that presence, motion sickness, service convenience, ease of use, service reliability, perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment were the most important indicators for perceived benefit and perceived sacrifice, and perceived value was analyzed as the most important variables for VR use intention. The important variables affecting perceived benefits were investigated as four variables: presence, service convenience, ease of use, and service reliability. Among these, the most important variables that have the greatest impact were investigated for service convenience, perceived usefulness. The important variables affecting perceived sacrifices were investigated as three variables: presence, motion sickness and ease of use, and the most important variables among them were investigated for ease of use. Ease of use was investigated to have a negative impact. Variables affecting perceived values were investigated as three variables: perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, and technicality, while the most important variables affecting perceived values were investigated as perceived usefulness. The technicality was investigated as the lowest influencing variable. The study found that value-seeking behavior has a fairly positive effect on the intention of adopting VR digital content subscription service to obtain usefulness and pleasant experience. Finally, a comparison between groups on the experience of using subscription services found that the user experience of VR digital content subscription services had a very high impact on the relationship between ease of use and perceived enjoyment. These results could confirm the same results as the consumer values pursued in the subscription economy. The results of the study are expected to help service providers, content production companies and the government create an ecosystem and vitalize the VR industry based on consumer value awareness for the VR industry, which is highly competitive for leadership in future industries around the world.
