This study provides a holistic framework of the labor implications of the so-called platform economy. The platform economy has meant more employment options for individuals wishing to participate in the gig economy. Typically, platform employment opportunities fall into two forms of work, which are crowd work and gig work. Platform economy has three key features, flexibility, virtuality and connectivity. These three features give people more opportunities to provide professional and non-professional labour service.
The purpose of this research was to analyze the influence of differences in South Korea and Chinese platform economy workers toward self-congruity, perceived value, social support with job-satisfaction. Data were collected from South Korea and China (104 South Korea and 219 China), the results of data analysis showed that the proposed research model was valid and that the factors influencing job satisfaction were different, depending on South Korea and China.
The results of analysis can be summarized as follows: First, the self-congruity, perceived value, social support impacts positive(+) influence on job-satisfaction of platform economy workers
Second, in case of South korean workers, the self-congruity did not give statistically significant influences on job satisfaction. Unlike this, in case of Chinese workers ,all variables, the self-congruity, perceived value, social support gave influences on job-satisfaction.
Third, in South Korea, both the gig-workers and crowd-workers have positive effects on job-satisfaction except for the self-congruity , but in China, the social support did not give effects on job-satisfaction.
As the platform economy continues to grow at a tremendous pace, it is important for platform economy firms to understand platform workers' impact with the goal of job satisfaction. The results of this research contribute to our understanding of the platform economy and platform economy workers both in Korea and China. Based on the finding of this study, we need for continuing research into the conceptualization of platform economy workers’ job-satisfaction, and need to clarify the relationship between constituent dimensions and other factors to job-satisfaction.
