According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's'Revenue Trends of Major Distributors', online sales increased by 20% compared to the same period last year and offline sales increased by 1%. In particular, online growth was about 20 times higher than that of offline. While the growth of online distribution is accelerating in the post-corona era, offline distribution is struggling. Among these, Target, the representative offline distribution channel in the United States, recorded the highest performance in history in the second and fourth quarters of 2020. Although online shopping is strong, offline distribution is still an important distribution channel that cannot be overlooked in the post-corona era. In this situation, offline distribution is creating a new customer experience that has never been before by combining the strengths of digital technology and offline. Olive Young is enhancing the customer experience by introducing a “hair curling bar” service that allows you to experience dyed and color products through augmented reality (AR) technology. Recently, Lotte Duty Free is strengthening customer experience through technology, such as introducing a smart store using digital technology. All of these stores reinforce the customer experience factor in their services. And through digital (IT) technology, we are working to provide a unique and special experience to our customers. Reflecting this situation, various customer experience studies have been reported in academia. As a study related to the customer experience in the store, in the past, mainly studies that proved the characteristics of traditional stores such as interior, layout, and product assortment. Recently, researches related to new technologies such as augmented reality in stores and self-service technology have been actively conducted. However, previous studies on customer experience in stores have the following limitations. First, it deals with store-specific factors that affect the customer experience in the store and customer reactions that occur in the store, but studies that directly consider the customer experience variables were limited. Second, in most studies, the concept of customer experience itself is treated vaguely. Third, studies that consider customer experience and customer engagement as a direct relationship can be seen to be limited. Fourth, studies that considered both traditional store characteristics and store characteristics due to digital technology in the retail industry were limited. Therefore, this study attempts to derive store characteristics that affect the customer experience in beauty stores based on prior research, and to verify how the customer experience dimension is connected with customer engagement. In this relationship, we would like to verify how the influence of digital touch points on the customer experience varies according to the consumer untact tendency. The analysis results are as follows. First, it was found that the trialability in the store had a positive effect on the cognitive and emotional customer experience. Second, the interactions with employees did not affect cognitive customer experience much, but it was found to have a positive effect on social experience. Third, it was found that the automated information provision had a positive effect on the cognitive and emotional customer experience. Fourth, digital-based personalized recommendations were found to have a positive effect on the cognitive customer experience. However, digitally-based personalized recommendations did not significantly affect the emotional customer experience. Fifth, it was found that cognitive customer experience has a positive effect on customer engagement. Sixth, it was found that emotional customer experience has a positive effect on customer engagement. Seventh, social customer experience was found to have a positive effect on customer engagement. Finally, it was found that Untact moderating effects of digital touch points on the customer experience. Based on this, the theoretical implications and limitations of this study are as follows. First, this study defined Trialability, which was only conceptually proposed by Roggeveen et al (2020), as the ease of product testing in the beauty store area, and verified empirically. Second, in the literature on customer experience in stores, studies that directly dealt with customer experience were limited, and customer experience itself was treated vaguely. Therefore, this study defined the concept of customer experience according to the conceptual framework proposed by Becker and Jaakkola (2020), and verified a research model composed of antecedent and and consequences factors in the beauty-related retail area. Third, as a result variable of customer experience, customer engagement, which was limited in previous studies, was considered as a direct relationship and verified. Fourth, in the retail area, it is meaningful that it was verified by applying it to a research model in consideration of both traditional store characteristics and store characteristics due to digital technology. Fifth, it was revealed that the customer experience with digital technology differs depending on the consumer untact tendency. Therefore, the influence of consumer characteristics on new technology and customer experience was revealed in consideration of the untact tendency of consumers who are reluctant to make face-to-face contact. Finally, this study has the following limitations. First, it is necessary to derive and test more preceding factors (various touch points) that can affect the customer experience in the store. Second, this study focused only on the customer experience that can only be experienced within the store. Future research needs to consider the customer experience from a more dynamic perspective over the customer's journey. Third, it is necessary to verify the in-store customer experience model proposed in this study in various areas. Fourth, it is necessary to test various moderating variables in addition to the consumer untact tendency.
