The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of job engagement and perceived job demand and the moderating effect of positive psychological capital in terms of the effect of counselor's perfectionism on job performance and job burnout. The study participants were counselors who performed counseling services, and a total of 333 data were included in the analysis. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, the counselor's functional perfectionism partially mediated job engagement and affected job performance, and counselor's dysfunctional perfectionism affected job burnout, partially mediated by perceived job demand. This shows that perfectionism has a differential effect on job performance and job burnout through different parameters according to functional and dysfunctional characteristics. Also, the main effect of positive psychological capital was consistently found on the path from counselor's dysfunctional perfectionism through perceived job demand to job burnout, and positive psychological capital had a moderating effect on the relationship between perceived job demand and job burnout. This indicates that positive psychological capital is a reliable resource that lowers counselors' job burnout. Since this is a study only for some counselors, there is a limit to its generalization, and this study suggests that various follow‐up studies need to be expanded in future.
