This study investigated the current status and usage of books in school libraries for efficient management of books, and calculated the values of book composition and usage factors by subject of school libraries using the book evaluation method. In addition, the purpose of the analysis is to suggest problems with the composition of books in the school library. A summary of the composition of the school library books is as follows. The book-oriented evaluation analyzed the overall book retention status, the number of books per student, the status of book composition in 2020 compared to 2019, and the distortion rate. First, a comparative analysis of the total number of books in 12 school libraries showed that the book composition ratio by subject was high in the order of literature, history, and natural science, and that the book composition ratio of religion and general culture was low. In addition, no school matched the criteria of the Korea Library Association with the ratio of book composition by subject. Second, the number of books per student met the standards of the Korea Library Association except for one school, and met the criteria of the 2nd Framework Plan for the Promotion of School Libraries announced in 2018. Third, comparing the number of books in 2019 and the number in 2020, there are eight schools whose books have increased, and four schools whose books have decreased. The reason for the decrease in the number of books seems to have decreased due to the inspection and disposal of books in 2020. Fourth, the proportion of book distortion by subject fell short of the standard for other subjects except philosophy and literature. The book composition ratio by topic shows an overall disproportionate tendency. Especially in literature. The utilization-oriented assessment compared loan statistics by school and analyzed the utilization coefficients of book composition by subject. First, loan statistics by school showed a loan ratio that was three times lower than the previous year, and the loan ratio and the number of books were not proportional. Second, the utilization coefficient according to the book composition by subject was higher in literature and the degree of imbalance was more severe than the book composition by subject.
