This study was conducted to investigate the impact and experience of gratitude diary on
the school life of middle school students in a class group during a period of COVID-19. For
this purpose, domestic and foreign research literature related to auditing was reviewed, and
the results of the study based on the contents and meaning of actual middle school
students' audit diary experiences are as follows.
First, the gratitude diary contributed to the positive thinking of middle school students in
the class group and the promotion of happiness. For students who have difficulty writing
consistently, teachers can provide directions for gratitude and guide students to expand the
scope of gratitude through positive comments and feedback.
Second, while writing a gratitude diary, students recalled their gratitude towards family,
friends, and teachers, and were able to establish positive relationships with those around
them, and found the strengths rather than the weaknesses of their friends. These factors
also affected the students' relationships in the classroom, which served as an opportunity to
prevent school maladjustment. It gives hope that in the future, even when students enter
society, they will be able to flexibly cope with difficulties based on the importance of
relationships.
Suggestions for follow-up studies based on these research results are as follows.
First, since this study was selected as a sample of 26 public middle school students from
small and medium cities, it is difficult to generalize to all middle school students in Korea.
In a follow-up study, it should be checked whether the results of this study are repeated
for each group in consideration of the distribution of study subjects and socio-demographic
variables.
Second, it is premature to generalize how accurately the gratitude diary activity had on
students in a short period of 4 weeks.
Third, given that students have different audit tendencies, it is necessary to apply
counseling and activities in parallel to prevent audit fatigue because audit fatigue may occur
if the audit journal is done without any measures.
