As global warming has recently become a critical global issue, each country is implementing low-carbon polices. In order to reduce the amount of CO2 gas emitted from exhaust gas, the industry is developing from fossil fuel-based vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). Li-ion batteries used in electric vehicles are required to high energy density and power density to meet long driving distance and high output performance. However, in a liquid electrolyte based Li-ion battery, as the temperature decreases, viscosity of liquid electrolyte increases, leading to a decrease in ionic conductivity. And then, liquid electrolyte acts as an ignition source, causing stability problems. To solve this problem, all-solid electrolytes (ASSBs) are emerging as next-generation lithium ion batteries. ASSBs used a solid electrolyte instead of liquid electrolyte and separator, has a high potential window over 5.0 V Li0/Li+, and has advantage of no risk of ignition. So, ASSBs can realize stability and high energy density. However, unlike a Li-ion batteries, since a liquid electrolyte is not used in ASSBs, lithium ion in ASSBs move through the point contact between cathode material and solid electrolyte in positive electrode. Due to the inefficient contact at the interface, interfacial resistance increases and movement of lithium ions is limited, so it has poor electrochemical performance. To compensate this problem, a lot of research has been conducted recently on a composite solid electrolyte (CSE) in which polymer solid electrolyte and inorganic solid electrolyte are mixed. The polymer solid electrolyte in the CSE acts as a binder, provides ionic conductivity in ASSB manufactured by wet process, and enables interface control between cathode material and solid electrolyte. In this study, in order to implement ASSBs with improved electrochemical properties, the interfacial issue between cathode material and solid electrolyte was investigated. First, through the size effect of Ni-rich cathode material of [Li(Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)O2, NCM811] and the olivine structure of LiFePO4 (LFP), the interfacial issue in the positive electrode was solved and improved properties mechanism was investigated. Secondly, electrochemical properties of ASSBs were improved and mechanism was elucidated by compositing garnet type ionic conductivity material (Li6.75La3Zr2Al0.25O12, LLZO-Al) on the surface of Ni-rich cathode material (NCM811) using co-precipitation method. Finally, by optimizing the synthesis condition of LiNiO2 (LNO) cathode material, a high capacity cathode material over 200 mAh g-1 was synthesized by co-precipitation method, which was implemented as ASSBs.
