The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of social support and job stress on turnover intention for childcare teachers at daycare centers. For this purpose, questionnaires were collected from 279 childcare teachers working at daycare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon, and a total of 259 copies were used as final analysis data. To measure the social support of childcare teachers, the social support scale developed by Ji-won Park(1985) was used. And to measure the job stress of childcare teachers, the teacher job stress measurement tool which was developed by D'Araenzo, Morraco, and Krajeski(1982) was used which modified and supplemented by Hye-young Shin(2004) to fit the childcare teacher. Lastly, to measure the turnover intention of childcare teachers, based on the questionnaire developed by Allen and Meyer(1990) and adapted by Byeong-man So (1998), Jae-hyeon Ahn(2014) modified according to the purpose of the study was used. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 Window program, frequency analysis was performed to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of the study subjects, and Cronbach'a coefficients were calculated to identify the reliability of each test tool. In addition, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed. The main research results of this study are as follows. First, the results of examining the difference in turnover intention according to socio-demographic variables of childcare teachers are as follows. Childcare teachers working at home·private daycare centers had higher turnover intentions than daycare teachers working at national, public, corporate, and workplace daycare centers. Second, as a result of examining the correlation between sub-variables of childcare teachers' social support, job stress, and turnover intention, all sub-variables of childcare teachers' social support showed a statistically significant negative correlation with turnover intention. In addition, there was a significant positive correlation between childcare teachers' overall sub-factors of job stress and turnover intention. Third, as a result of examining the relative influence of childcare teachers' social support and job stress on turnover intention, it was found that childcare teachers' social support and job stress had a statistically significant effect on turnover intention. The emotional support, a sub-factor of social support at the workplace, was found to have a statistically significant effect on turnover intention. Lastly, it was found that the principal's leadership, administrative support, and relationship with parents, which are sub-factors of childcare teachers' job stress, had the highest influence. Through the results of this study, social support and job stress of childcare teachers were identified as variables affecting turnover intention. And to reduce the turnover intention of childcare teachers, emotional support, informational support, material support and evaluative support from the principal and colleagues are needed, in addition, there is a need for a plan to relieve the job stress experienced by the principal, colleagues, and parents during work performance at daycare centers. The early childhood period is the period most affected by the environment, and the long-term service of childcare teachers maintains the childcare process at daycare centers consistently and provides stable attachment to infants and toddlers, helping them to develop and emotionally grow. In addition, there are many factors such as childcare environment, childcare process and childcare program that determine the quality of childcare service, but the most important factor among them is the competent childcare teacher. However, the turnover rate of childcare teachers is quite high. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that it suggested the necessity of creating a childcare environment that parents can trust and entrust their child by examining social support and job stress, securing excellent childcare teachers, and seeking ways for childcare teachers to work in the childcare field.
