The purpose of this study is to develop and implement programs to verify the effect of narrative therapy group counseling programs using cartoon drawing on the self-esteem and learned helplessness of early adolescents. The research question presented to achieve this research purpose is, first, how is the narrative therapy group counseling program organized using cartoon drawing? Second, is the narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing effective in improving the self-esteem of early adolescents? Third, is the narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing effective in reducing the learned helplessness of early adolescents? To this end, 22 middle school students in the metropolitan area were recruited, divided into an experimental group and a control group, and the experimental group conducted a narrative therapy group counseling program twice a week for 70 minutes, and the control group conducted a self-esteem test and learned lethargy test. Objective analysis and subjective analysis were used to measure the pre-post change of the experimental group and the control group in this study, and objective analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U verification and Wilcoxon sign verification, which are nonparametric statistics, using SPSS 25. In addition, for subjective analysis, participants' evaluations for each session, activity sheets for each session, cartoon drawing contents analysis, and post-mortem impressions were used to analyze. The summary of the results of this study is as follows. First, the narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing conducted in this study was constructed by combining cartoon drawing elements based on the narrative treatment components and flows. Second, it was found that the narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing had a significant effect on improving the self-esteem of early adolescents. Third, it showed a significant effect on the reduction of learned lethargy, and in the sub-factors, lack of confidence, passivity, lack effectiveness and efficiency of counseling by visualizing the process of externalizing problems. In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it developed a narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing to prove its effectiveness and suggested the therapeutic effect and applicability of the group counseling program using the advantages of cartoon media and narrative therapy. of control, and lack of desire to show off were statistically significant. Fourth, the use of cartoon drawing increased the interest, self-openness, and participation of early adolescents participating in the narrative therapy group counseling program, and improved the effectiveness and efficiency of counseling by visualizing the process of externalizing problems. In conclusion, this study is meaningful in that it developed a narrative therapy group counseling program using cartoon drawing to prove its effectiveness and suggested the therapeutic effect and applicability of the group counseling program using the advantages of cartoon media and narrative therapy.
