The purpose of this study was to expand the choreographic methods of non-dance students through a study of the choreographic process of the work "Who am I?", which was created using the contact improvisation method. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the "Documentary Research Method" and "Practice-Based Research: PBR" were used. Rather than analyzing the works themselves, this paper aims to grasp the practical techniques and theories by studying the process of creating the works. Firstly, through literature survey and prior research, non-dance majors were selected as actors for the work. We designed contact improvisation training for non-dance majors, set goals, and began the creation of the dance piece. Next, interviews, feedback, photos, and body records (Somatic Data) with the dancers during the creation process were compiled and analyzed. Finally, the whole process of dance creation was analyzed and organized. As a means and methodology of impromptu physical exercises, Contact Improvisation is not only an effective tool in training dancers and creating works, but also can be directly selected as the form of works. Therefore, in this creation, Contact Improvisation is not only the technique and method of cultivating dancers' body, but also the main manifestation of the composition of the work. The specific steps are as follows. Firstly, guide the inner expression of the dancers. The dancers were transformed from the psychological level of "dancing for others" to the psychological level of "dancing for oneself". At the beginning of improvisation training, eliminate as much as possible the dancer's own programmatic "sense of expression", as well as the behavior of deliberately seeking the beauty of movement and expression as the first purpose. It maximizes the body's inner "expression". By facing the side of the classroom without a mirror, we ensure that we are not disturbed by anything around us. The author creates an immersive atmosphere for the dancers by using a variety of methods such as music, language, or the sound of live props, allowing them to listen, gaze, or sit in silence to gradually bring their bodies into a natural state of performance. This kind of performance is different from the traditional dance image programming. It is a simple expression of the "five senses" of the body, which is a meditation of the heart. The establishment of this stage can guide dancers to find their own style of movement through understanding, feeling and practice. Secondly, it allows dancers to build up their confidence through contact improvisation exercises. For non-dance majors, it is difficult for them to be as comfortable as dance majors at the beginning. They are often out of movement, afraid to perform and at a loss for words. After doing improvisation training such as joint guidance and muscle feeling several times, the author encourages dancers to reacquaint themselves with their bodies and focus on the establishment of inner rhythm based on breaking the program. "Inner rhythm is a variety of different rhythmic changes caused by the inner emotions and inner moods that dancers give to themselves, i.e., various human emotions and internal skills of the underlying human organism", rather than blindly imitating the prescribed movements of the outer form. We look for muscles, parts of the body, and even pores that we have never cared about or rarely used. From this body muscle, part or pore, the free movement of other muscles, parts or pores can be driven. Let the dancer's body change without purpose and freely, and make a direct judgment movement from inside. Thirdly, perform improvisation exercises that fit the theme of the piece. Once the dancer's body has reached relative relaxation and has the ability to think and associate on their own, we begin the next step of improvisation guidance regarding the theme of the piece. "Creating a successful environment conducive to improvisation relies heavily on the skill, command, and imagination of the guide." So it took us about two months of training to do thematic improvisation guidance. Giving the choreographer plenty of time to bond with the dancers improved the understanding between the choreographer and the dancers. This allowed the nerve endings of the dancer's body to experience inner expression as well as the material of the piece to guide. Fourthly, improvisation exercises are recorded as a basis for selecting music and forming dance passages. The author will guide improvisation for recording and organize the summary, and select quality segments for further integration to form stylistic dance segments. Next, the author determines the music and further develops the movements in conjunction with the story content to eventually form the dance segments. Through this experimental creation, the author found that improvisation from spontaneous ideas to decision-making, for choreographers and improvisers, it also includes the influence of personal experience and the exploration of personal artistry; The role of dancers in impromptu performances is to express themselves truly and exercise honestly, showing their adventurous spirit and free limbs. What contact improvisation emphasizes is the process of dancing, not the aesthetic desire or demand of the audience. Only when dancers eliminate the aesthetic appeal from the audience can they experience the truly open mind and freedom of expressing personal art in improvisation.
