This study attempted to investigate the utility of live streaming to viewers by revealing that it is similar to the online community rather than the form of broadcasting. As a prior work, the reason for acquiring a sense of belonging and exploring information through the online community in the modern media society was investigated. As a theoretical background for this, the theories of Jean Baudrillard, Jan van Dijk, Henry Jenkins and Michel Maffesoli were borrowed. Through this, it was revealed that the anxiety of modern people in an excess information society became the background for the emergence of a small "interest" community that gives a sense of belonging and information. Live streaming is also a media that gives users the utility of 'relieving tension' or 'reliability of information' despite its inefficiency. This is the common utility of live streaming and online communities. Based on this similarity, this study analyzed live streaming in three aspects: media environment, spatio-temporality within the media, and members of the media to reveal the similarity and utility of live streaming and online communities from various angles. First of all, it is similar to the online community in that it has a platform interface that can reflect live streaming's 'no censorship' and microscopic 'interest'. These two characteristics serve as the background for live streaming to have characteristics similar to online communities, unlike other media. After that, it dealt with the aspects that 'real-time' and 'participation spaces', which are characteristics of live streaming, reinforce the online community characteristics and the process of delivering the generated utility to users. In this process, Erika Fischer-Lichte's concept of "performance" revealed that live streaming is a media that can give more "realization" in experience or stimulation than other media, and that such "realization" makes experience and information delivered through live streaming reliable. Finally, among the types of broadcasts of live streaming, the avatars of "NoneSelfy Broadcasting" and "V-tuber" that do not show the broadcaster's body, dealt with the self-reproduction of live streaming members in the online community. Through this, it was suggested that the avatar has a function of the interaction source of subcultures such as games and animation, even if it is not a main topic of broadcasting. Through this, it was found that the avatar was used as a set and symbol of 'interest' rather than a representative of the physical sense. In addition, it was revealed that in online communication, distance depends greatly on the closeness of 'interest', not the synchronization of the senses. This study is meaningful in that through this multi-pronged approach, live streaming is closer to the form of an online community than to the form of broadcasting, and it revealed the specific aspect of online communication through live streaming.
