The elementary school care classroom, which started to address the blind spots of care for the lower grades of elementary school, continues to increase with the expansion of the target grade students. What must be accompanied with this expansion is the development of a program for emotional stability care that reflects the characteristics of the care classroom. Thus, this study developed a SEL music play activity program for elementary school upper grades to develop practical social-emotional abilities of care class students and examined guidance plans for various caring staff such as primary care providers and volunteers, to increase the use of music and social-emotional activities in the care classroom. To develop the guidance plan, this study reviewed the prior research of elementary school care classes and the SEL program and collected necessary implications. The SEL music models applied in this guidance plan are Jung-eun Cho's TFB and Mi-young Choi's Strong Kids, which were recomposed based on the care classroom environment. Next, music activities were organized based on the music achievement standards for grades 5-6 presented by the Ministry of Education curriculum in 2015. As a result, a six-session SEL music play activity program that satisfies the social-emotional(SEL) and the music domains was developed. The first session consisted of an opening activity to set the rules necessary for the care class activities under the theme of “Creating a Song for Our Class Care Rules” and singing it with song lyrics. The second session is an activity to accept and understand the various feelings of oneself and others through “The Four Seasons I Feel” in which the students apply them to music and express their feelings about the four seasons. The third session, “My Heart is like” is an activity to look back on one's feelings and choose music that goes well with it, and in the fourth session, “When a Difficult Thing Happens” students explore ways to overcome difficulties through music examples. In the fifth session, “Let's Blow Away the Stress” students talk about stressful situations and relieve them using post-it notes. The sixth session is “Music We Make Together” in which students play music together with instruments using paper cups and straws. After developing the guidance plan, this study conducted a validity test on four experts related to elementary school care class. According to the results, the contents, field suitability, and development feasibility of this guidance were recognized, and proposals for follow-up studies of classroom and music programs were presented. Through this study, I hope that music activities are researched in a way to increase the usability by exerting social and emotional effects in more care and education fields.
