This study constructed a profile of food tourists in Chongqing using a psychographics scale that has proven reliability and validity. Based on the established profile, the types of food tourists in Chongqing were examined, and the food tourism market in Chongqing was segmented. A total of 521 questionnaires were distributed through an online survey company, and valid data from 500 of them were used for confirmatory factor analysis and cluster analysis. After dividing the tourist types into confirmed clusters, the demographic characteristics and tourism activity characteristics of each group were compared and analyzed through one-way ANOVA and crossanalysis. The Chongqing food tourist profile using the psychographics scale showed four main tendencies: 'indifferent', 'conservative', 'local diversityfocused', and 'active'. In the case of the ‘indifferent’ tourists classified as the first group, the subjects of the survey were more men than women, and the age groups were evenly distributed in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Those who have graduated from professional colleges account for the most. Teachers and office workers account for a relatively large proportion of occupations. According to data, most frequently, ‘indifferent’ tourists travel alone. and they receive a lot of reviews from review sites and online communities, and share their experiences with travel sites and family friends. In terms of educational background, most of them had a college or high school education. Companions of 'conservative' tourists appeared relatively evenly, but friends were found to be relatively high at 33.8%. It can be seen that all channels occupy more than 30% and actively obtain information. Actively use travel sites or portal sites to share experiences. Also leave a lot of reviews with images. The food-related activities experienced were evenly distributed. Third, in the case of local diversity-oriented tourists, women accounted for a large proportion with 45.2% of the total, and those in their twenties accounted for the most, with 48.4% of students and office workers having graduate school or higher education. In terms of age, those in their twenties accounted for the most at 30.8% of the total. As for companions, the team members of social groups or clubs take up to 29.4%, which was relatively high in the group. When collecting information, the majority were locals. And when sharing experiences, 36.5% with online communities and 33.6% on review sites. Preferred food tourism activites were local food tasting is responsible for 40.4%, processed food purchase takes up tp 37.9% and tea culture experience takes up to 31.7%. Lastly, ‘active’ tourists accounted for the most in their 20s and 30s in the case of ‘active’ tourists, and by gender, male tourists occupied more than female tourists. Professional occupations accounted for 42.9% of the total. And university education tourists take up to 43.5%. The number of companions of couple was 54.4%, which was much higher than that of other groups. When collecting information, acquaintances occupied 37.3% and travel sites accounted for the most at 38.4%. They are very unique to family friends and travel sites, and their proportions take up to 34.6% and 33% respectively. They actively left reviews with videos or images. Food related activities experienced by food festivals accounted for 38.7%, visits to hot pot museums is 36.2%, and purchases of processed foods is 32.5%. In conclusion, this study identifies the existence of groups with four different tendencies and characteristics by a using psychographics scale to segment the food tourism market in Chongqing, thus suggesting practical and effective food tourism policy directions.
