This study aims to develop Korea's palace Dancheong, cultural heritage into a representative brand by not only attempting to murge historical products with modern digital design but also to converting the closed image of architecture into frank and open images such as cars and bags by combining various morphological features and symbolic meanings found in Dancheong patterns from Injungjeon, in Chanduk Palace and also from Myungjungjeon in Changkyung Palace. During the Joseon Dynasty, the palace began to be built as soon as it was founded as a residence for the king. Gyeongbok Palace was completed in the 4th year of the first King of Joseon, Taejo reign. However, due to political events, including the Prince's Rebellion, the reconnaissance and the transition to Hanyang were repeated. The Joseon Palace was operated in earnest from the 3rd Taejong period, and he founded Changdeok Palace. Later, the 9th King Seongjong built Changgyeong Palace. In this way, in the early Joseon Dynasty, Changdeok Palace and Changgyeong Palace were built together along with Gyeongbok Palace and operated under the Yanggung system. Later, in 1592, during the Japanese Invasion of Korea 1592, the three significant palaces were destroyed entirely, but Gwanghaegun rebuilt Changdeok Palace and soon founded Gyeonghui Palace. Since then, the five significant palaces have been expanded and renovated to Changgyeong Palace, Gyeongbok Palace, and Deoksu Palace from various kings to King Gojong. Therefore, this paper first identified the expansion and structural transition process of the five major palace blackouts, identified the types and patterns of Dancheong patterns drawn in them by the next period, and analyzed their characteristics. Among the Dancheong patterns drawn in the Donggung Hall, an original pattern reflecting the period's style was extracted and creatively reproduced as a modern design motif to develop it as a national brand representing Korea in the global competitive society of the 21st century. Through this process, the contents of this paper are summarized as follows. First, among the five major palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty, the establishment and changes of Gyeongbok Palace, Changdeok Palace, and Changgyeong Palace in the early Joseon Dynasty were examined. Then the period was divided into the 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries. First, the Sungjeong Hall of Gyeonghui Palace, which was built in the 17th century, was operated the most during King Yeongjo. However, it was destroyed in the Japanese colonial era and is now the only palace used as a shrine. Next, the Myeongjeong Hall of Changgyeong Palace was produced in the 17th century based on records such as 『The Ark of Changgyeong Palace Repair Center』 and 『The Ark of Yeonggeondogam of Changgyeong Palace』, and the repaired process was confirmed. Meanwhile, the Injeong Hall of Changdeok Palace, the most favored by the kings of Joseon and used as law throughout the late Joseon Dynasty, was the first to be rebuilt after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1803 (the 3rd year of King Sunjo's reign). The process of reconstruction of the Changdeok Palace can be found through 『the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty』 or the Ark of the Yeonggeondogam of Changdeok Palace.』 At the end of the 19th century, the Geunjeong Hall of Gyeongbok Palace was rebuilt by Daewon-gun, and this can be seen through 『Yeonggun Diary.』 King Gojong, who returned to Gyeon Palace after passing through Agwanpacheon Stream in the early 20th century, rebuilt the Junghwan Hall of Deoksu Palace, which can be confirmed through 『The Ark of the Jungdogam of Gyeongung Palace.』 In addition, the background of the palace's construction and expansion status were found through depicting the layout of the five major palaces in the late Joseon Dynasty, and depicting the arrangement of Changdeok and Changgyeong Palace, and black and postcards. Second, the patterns of Dancheong drawn in the main hall of the five significant palaces were examined, focusing on the changes made during the period. As a result of confirming the architectural structure and Dancheong patterns of Myeongjeong Hall in Changgyeong Palace in the 17th century, it was found by analyzing the temple Dancheong drawn during the same period. In the early 19th century, Dancheong in Injeong Hall of Changdeok Palace was identified with the patterns of Dancheong that were popular in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty through its architectural structure and members. In the mid-19th century, Dancheong in Geunjeong Hall of Gyeongbok Palace had a larger architectural structure than before. Accordingly, the patterns of Dancheong by members were also popular in the late Joseon Dynasty. In the early 20th century, the Dancheong of Deoksugung Palace was the emperor country of the Korean Empire. The Dancheong pattern by the member was also confirmed to be suitable for the emperor. Third, the brand was developed using the Dancheong patterns of Changdeok Palace Injeong Hall and Changgyeong Palace Myeongjeongjeon Hall, which show the characteristics of Dancheong in the Joseon Dynasty. After analyzing domestic cases using the Dancheong pattern and overseas cases based on the palace, the design was developed with the motif of tripe, double coins, and twin phoenix patterns among the head figure and half-head figure of Myeongjeongjeon and Injeongjeon. As is well known, Dong Palace, represented by Injeong Hall of Changdeok Palace and Myeongjeong Hall of Changgyeong Palace, is a monumental symbol represented by our people. Among the Dancheong patterns, tripe, double coins, and twin phoenix patterns have a unique and original cultural identity. In order to develop this as a brand, first, the original patterns were accurately identified by simulating the head and half-head figures of the Jeong Hall in Dongguan by Illustration technique. Then, the brand was developed and completed byapplying modern molding principles such as simplification process, simplification, and repetitive pattern using the pattern as a motif. Fourth, 'National Culture Goods' was produced by working on a 3D simulation of a pattern that can be applied to textile products in Donggung Hall. Above all, the tradition and aesthetics inherent in the Dancheong pattern of Donggung Hall were reinterpreted from the perspective of modern molding design. To this end, the fabric material applied to the motif was selected, the decorative techniques were changed in various ways, and it was implemented as a three-dimensional, tactile, practical, and universal product beyond the existing flat and visual image. In this way, this paper attempted to modernly reinterpret the Korean formative beauty of Dancheong in Donggung Hall and develop it as a national brand. Through this, it was not only intended to inform the public about the history of our palace and the importance of the Dancheong pattern but also to play a role in communicating with the people by producing cultural products using the principles of modern molding design. Through this process, Changdeok Palace and Changgyeong Palace are not representative palaces of Korea but world-class attractions. It is hoped that cultural products with Dancheong patterns will serve as cultural added values that represent Korea in today's global competitive society. In addition, these are believed to enhance national competitiveness by revealing Korea's status well and operating as a national brand that can P·R culture.
