In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, interest in advanced technology and software education to cope with future changes in occupation and life increased. In the 2015 revised information department curriculum, computational thinking skills were emphasized as the core competencies pursued in software education. Software education using physical computing connects reality to the computing environment so that it can be closer to solving real-life problems, and can be expected to improve learners' creative problem-solving skills and software capabilities. In this study, we compared A elementary school which used physical computing, and B elementary school which used only EPL to code for 3rd to 4th-grade after-school coding classes, and studied the aspect of coding class using physical computing and its ability to improve computational thinking. The 27th class program was developed and provided with software education by applying Entry which can be easily programmed for the first time in elementary and lower grades and Funboard and Microbit, which are easy to access without knowledge of circuits. Through this, pre-test and post-test were conducted to verify the difference in learners' computational thinking skills, and the conclusions obtained as a result of conducting a post-interview are as follows. It was found that physical computing tools should be selected considering the age of the learners and that effective software education can be provided when provided by the educational environment and economic circumstances. In addition, it was observed that learners were more interested in software education using physical computing and tended to actively participate in class. It was analyzed that software education using physical computing had a positive effect on the improvement of the computational thinking ability of elementary school students. If a program is developed so that learners can receive high-quality software education by identifying the elements necessary for education, and many materials are developed and distributed, it is expected that it will help to improve the computational thinking ability of elementary school students. Therefore, the development of the teaching/learning process for physical computing teaching materials and in-depth research are continuously required.
