The metaverse has quickly established itself in our daily lives. The continuation of the Covid-19 pendemic accelerated digital transformation. In the fashion industry, they are conducting marketing targeting the user base with differentiated services such as opening unique stores within the platform or launching exclusive items. Fashion brands have digitized products sold offline so that the same products can be purchased as items, and consumers feel vicarious satisfaction similar to shopping in reality. Advanced graphic technology provides a spatial and temporal environment similar to reality, so that users have the illusion that it is actually happening. This experience serves help consumer to experience the brand without going to an actual offline store. Many companies are paying more attention to the metaverse and investing in the sale of digital items to use it as a good marketing tool. This study examines whether the congruence between fashion items and self-image experienced by consumers who purchase fashion items on the Metaverse while using the platform affects the intention to continue using the platform through usage habits and purchase intention, also the moderating effect of item reality. A survey was conducted targeting those in their teens and 30s who had experience using the metaverse. The metaverse was defined as “a virtual space where you create avatars that represent you and play and live as those characters.” The analysis results are as follows. First, it was confirmed that matching fashion items and self-image had a positive effect on usage habits. It is judged that the higher the congruency of the item image experienced by consumers with their own image, the more positive the effect on the usage habit. Second, it was found that habitual usage had a significant effect on item purchase intention and continuous use intention. It can be seen that unconscious and repetitive usage habits can have a positive effect on the intention to continue using the platform and the intention to purchase items in the virtual world. Third, it was confirmed that the intention to purchase items had a significant effect on the intention to continue using. It can be interpreted that users improve their satisfaction with use through various interactions, including purchasing items, and repetition of this process leads to continued use of the platform. Finally, the moderating effect of item reality was found to have a significant effect. This suggests that with the development of graphic technology, users in the metaverse may mistakenly believe that the virtual world is actually happening, and may habitually use the platform as if they were habitually visiting shopping malls in reality. In order for a company to have a competitive edge to survive in the metaverse market, it is necessary to identify and improve the core capabilities of the platform. The results of this study will help understand consumer reactions to purchasing fashion items in the virtual world, and are expected to provide important implications for finding out the positive impact of metaverse services on the fashion industry. In addition, by examining purchase intentions for fashion item products that digitized products actually sold in reality, the scope of existing research related to virtual reality was expanded to a new business area.
